I asked the question to Toyota on Facebook - here is the reply:

thanks for your post. Toyota has not released the final specifications for the TRD Pro line-up. You can find information online at http://toyota.us/1pa9qqx . Stay tuned for further release.

I don't think I've ever seen a TRD Sport or TRD OR around here without the tow package. Weird...

V6 tow package is optional. I do alot of special orders in california. There are some at the factory that does not have package tw and just a small amount that do have the option tw.

TRDEVAN - thank you for the answer! I don't understand why Toyota didn't bundle it into the already hefty priced Trd Pro package but at least I know it's not standard. Looks the the 4 runner pro got a better pro upgrade for not much more than a non pro - they get Navigation also and other goodies. The Tacoma Pro package got the short end of the straw when it came to extra stuff compared to the 4runner and Tundra Pro.

Yeah; the receiver is a rip if you're going to do serious towing.

Here's the descr fm the '14 brochure: Tacoma’s available accessory ball mount and trailer ball are built for the long haul. A Class-III hitch, it’s more than capable of handling Tacoma’s maximum towing capacity and works with a 4-pin wiring harness. The receiver hitch also features dual-layer paint to help protect against the elements, corrosion and UV rays.\

Here's the tow package: V6 Tow Package: Class-IV towing receiver hitch, transmission and supplemental oil coolers (transmission cooler not available on manual transmission models), 130-amp alternator, heavy-duty battery, 7-pin connector with converter and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC)2

So fm the outside; if round 7 pin, it has the tow package; If only a 4 pin, it the port installed accessory option. But if you're really just occasional/light towing it will do - $550 is really a money maker - really about $300.00 value.

Some more info: http://www.tacomahq.com/ Pro description does not include the tow package; although agree that they'll bundle it (tow package added on sticker) more often than not.

I asked the dealer today if I could order a Pro with Towing Package - they said Towing Package is not an option for the Pro - Just the Receiver Hitch. Not sure if that is accurate - if anyone has seen a sheet on a Taco Pro with Towing Package - let me know!

Since the 2015 web configuration thing is there... It seems like the trd off road package automatically includes the tow package... But the trd pro isn't an option there. Hoping it comes with automatically!

I am pulling these figures out of my butt ... if I recall correctly the class iv tow package ... two coolers ... beefier alt and battery on my '14 OR was set at $650 ...so ... $500 for a hitch is ripoff.

I looked at several Baja's in KC and none had tow package. It was strange because they also came without side graphics. In Texas they all had tow package and graphics. I wanted tow without graphics. Sometimes you just cannot win.

My OR has tow package ...have dealer remove graphics ... they'll make it look like they were never on ... mine were off before it left the lot.

id be very surprised if the TRD pro didnt come with the tow package.... the auto trans can get pretty hot but not out of control with the tow package extra coolers..... i wouldnt want to be crawling, and blasting off road in an auto that didnt have the extra coolers.

So pretty much the final word is the Pro can come 3 different ways - so read the Window Sticker:
    1) TW which is the full Tow package with larger battery, Alternator and coolers - tow up to 6500 lbs.
    2) under options just a receiver hitch no other stuff like Above - tow up to 3500 lbs.
    3) no tow package, no receiver - tow nothing unless you add a receiver hitch then tow up to 3500 lbs or less if receiver hitch is rated for less.

That's the final word from the research I've done and the help of a forum member that works at a dealership.

So don't assume you have a full tow package on it just because it may have a receiver hitch.

For what they are charging for these things it better have a tow package.
I added one to my 2014 TRD Offroad.
