my truck is going on 9 months and used the outlet 6 times about. I used it several times to charge my phone. i also have used it to power two large work lights for a late night cook out on my tailgate. another time used it for microwave and to charge a small saws all battery. its not great the microwave was lagging a bit and took a while for my phone to charge but still helped a lot

 

My truck is over a year old and I've never used it. I'm looking for inspiration.

 

During the Ice storm power outage my chick used it for her Blo-dryer.... looked like it was just melting the ice off her hair for the first few minutes till the truck warmed up....

When my truck was new I had high hopes of using that bed inverter with a miter saw but it will barely turn one. I think the only time I've used it since was to plug in a laptop to charge.

After seeing that grinder in action I drove over to the shop and tried to power a few things with the Tacoma's inverter to see how they ran. Nothing much worked except for a small Makita drill, and I could stop it from turning by holding the chuck.

 

Considering it's only a 400w inverter, and most inverters (especially smaller ones) are not good at adapting to heavy burst loads, that's why most power tools don't do well.

I have an 800W Cobra that I use (since I can just hook it to the battery so no need to leave keys in the ignition) that's rated for 800w continuous and a 5 minute burst of 1600W (even longer in colder climates - most camping trips we are dealing with temperatures below freezing). I've hooked up all kinds of stuff to it and it powers it no problem. Multiple laptops, phone chargers, LOTS of DSLR battery chargers (I'm talking like 6 or more at a time...my friends and I are kind of photography nuts), guitar amps, etc. Powers it all no problem.

 

I did tell him to turn off the radio, but we tripped a breaker once at first , turned off some shit & it was running pretty normal cutting thru CV axles
