Thanks man! Starting a frame up resto on this one. Hoping to be camping in her by next year. These old trailers usually take a lot of work to get in shape. But, the end result is always worth it!

My new to me 08 Starcraft 34-RT advertised weights as follows 3200lbs dry weight,GVWR 5000lbs,hitch weight 416lbs. I am using a Prodigy P3 brake control, weight dist hitch, tow vehicle 14 V6 Prerunner.

I just towed this set up loaded ready to camp with water gas and all gear 2000 plus miles on the hottest roads in America 6% and 7% grades and the tightest narrow highway 1 in CA. The truck handled beyond my expectations. Cruising speed on the freeway at 70-75 on the flats at about 12 MPG with plenty of power to spare, never a problem on the grades except temps between 200-230 degrees. The only cons are the crappy trans cooler and the leaf springs. Planning on upgrading the cooler and just built a set of new leafs thanks to OMD!! This truck can work don't be fooled by what some say.

What do you mean by this?

It's not a commercial vehicle or trailer.

Would he need this special sticker for an RV of similar weight?

From what I was told, because the tacoma itself does not exceed 6k lbs, it does not require a weighted tag so long as I pull for recreation. My dad was told the same, and runs a standard tag on his GMC Sierra that pulls his 4k lbs. boat. He used to have a weighted tag before the law changed (the standard tag weight was raised).

In NC, If the truck exceeds 6k lbs, or hauls/tows commercially, it is automatically required to have a weighted tag, with the weight of the heaviest load to be hauled/towed added to the tag's weight.

The pop-up campers on the last page got me thinking. Pictures are from a camping trip last May. The trailer is a marriage between a ¾ ton military flatbed and a ‘88 Coleman Colorado. Pulls easy and didn't have as negative impact on my fuel mileage as I had anticipated.

Pulled a Jayco Swift 26BH to Santa Margarita last weekend. Roughly 150mi. Averaged 10.64Mpg on 87octane. Towed like a champ even with a head wind the entire drive. averaged about 55mph. Truck shifts more on the lower octane. Drive home used 91 and hardly down shifted, mpg is around 12. Trailer weighs 4300# dry, total length is 29ft. 2013 DC SB 4.0 4x4. Awesome truck!

We tow a 2012 Jayco JayFeather x213 travel trailer. Dry weight is 4300lb. Truck is stock. Electric brakes with a brake controller installed (did myself in moments, so easy). The guy I bought it off has a 2013 GMS Sierra 1500. He couldn't believe how much his truck squatted compared to the Taco! He was amazed at the way she handled the trailer.

every dmv got a different answer but anyways back to the weight tag question, if you register your truck with a 13k tag you're allowed to have a gcwr of 13k regardless if your truck can handle that much weight! in the state of NC. the state troopers could care less if your taco can't tow 8k pounds all they care is did you pay the fee to play the game.
