Awesome build! Great to see it in action, too. Quite uplifting for my spirit!

Thanks fellas, I appreciate it. As far as updates go, the entire front axle has been pulled and disassembled. Hoping to get it cleaned up this week. My neighbor is going to put my gears in for me this weekend.

The parts list I have is as follows:

    5.29's with solid spacers
    30 spline long fields
Chromo inner and outer hub gears
    Arp hub studs
    Tg diff armor
    Knuckleball gussets
    Axle truss
    Marlin axle seals
    Tg rock rings and wipers

I only work 1 day next week so I'm hoping to get this thing back together and if I have time I plan on bobbing 8" and possibly dovetailing 8" as well.

Haha good luck finding one up there that hasn't rotted away! I love my truck. Been a pretty solid and capable rig so far

I found an 84 for 1000 with a snapped frame behind the cab looks to be barely rusted and the interior of the cab looks damn near spotless

Question did yours come with power steering or did you add it later

Word! You'd really like Rausch creek and your truck would do awesome out there I'm sure. Nice work so far on the axle tear down, look forward to seeing the progress

That I'm not sure. It had power steering when I bought it from a member here but the resi isn't mounted and the hoses look out of place so I'd say it was added. And the frame snapped behind the cab is the perfect start for a backhalfed 4 link ;)

I might have to make a trip up there with you guys. I think it's like 4 or 5 hours last time I checked. Axle tear down has gone pretty smooth so far. Little intimidated to tear into the knuckles, I keep reading about having to set bearing preloads which is completely knew to me sooo we'll see how it goes haha.

You should have left all the shims in place, or marked where they go. If not, you will need a fish scale and patience to reset the preload.

Thanks man! I'll give that a read through.

I haven't removed any shims. My knuckles are still 100% assembled besides the hi steer arms and the shims under the arms are still there.

Good, put them back the way they are, and check with a fish scale when reassembling. If you are replacing the trunnion bearings, you may need to adjust the preload.

Trunion bearings feel great so I'm going to throw them back in. How far can you tear down the knuckles before having to worry about making adjustments when putting back together. The wheel bearing the only thing that has a preload?

You can tear it down completely. As long as you put the knuckle shims back like they were, that preload should not change. You might as well completely tear it down and clean EVERYTHING, especially if you are doing a complete knuckle rebuild.

I think I saw one at Advance auto last time I was there, I'll have to go check again. This may be a dumb question (which I feel like I've been asking a lot of lately) but to put break in miles on the front third would the best way be to just lock the hubs? Would it still have the same effect since there'd be no power sent to them?

Needs to be in 4wd. I just did 4 easy wheeling trips and changed the fluid.
