Urk. 3 hours for me. Plus 45 minutes to get lost trying to find the place, because Boston...

I'll follow you, we can caravan....besides been here for 2 years and still haven't made it to Boston. The wife wants to show off her home state and this looks like a good reason to head there

Hell, I can make it to Albany in just under 3 hours! You drive too slow :D
You're not missing much besides a cluster fuck of one way streets, asshat drivers, short tempers and high prices.

It's fun to visit, there's definitely a lot to do in the city but I'm over it and would love to move somewhere further from Boston.

Land's cheap up here in Maine, Puggles! Relatively speaking, of course.

I am originally from LA county....ass hat drivers, short tempers and high prices are the norm... only difference is the ocean it borders.

It will be a definite one time trip, at least see a game at Fenway Park and see a bit of history

and I fully agree, I am done with city life

you aint kidding, I was up in waterville early this month helping my father in law with an estate sale for his mother in law who recently passed,

got to talking to a real estate guy who had a 46 acre plot for 40,000..perc test passed, 4 acres cleared, drive way already done...prob is there is isnt any work up in that area for what I do...whether its in the firearm industry or as a CMM programmer

but I am always keeping my eye out for land in VT, NH or ME

S&W has a plant in Houlton. It's where my 22A was made. And my handcuffs, for that matter.
And land's REAL cheap in that area. However, it's another 2.5 hours North of Waterville. Boston from there is about a 5 hour drive.

And there's Windham Weaponry (in Windham, who'd have guessed ). But that again is a little over an hour to Waterville.

Believe me, I know. My wife is realizing it now also. I've been trying to tell her for a while and she didn't believe me so she did a property search around where I grew up (upstate NY) and couldn't believe what you could buy out there for what we just paid for our house out here. Problem now is uprooting everything and actually moving. We are fortunate that we both have stable jobs out here so that's tough to walk away from when we have a little one to support.
You want a new neighbor up there?

Yeah I looked into that...the one problem, is that the fire arms industry is on a down turn and companies are laying off like its cool.

in all realities me and the wife are seriously looking at the Custer/Rapid City areas or South Dakota...we stopped there for a few days on our way out to Yellowstone last year and fell in love with the area....land is cheap along with low home prices and the cost of living is low...best part is that the Liberal population is literately non existent and the hunting is phenomenal....but like it was brought up it is hard to uproot, sell the house and move

Yeah. The problem is that wages are comparatively lower here than they are in Massholechewsitts. So the land is cheaper, but it still makes up a similar portion of your income.
Now, if you were to move here flush with cash from working in another state, you'd be golden.

I'm actually considering going back to upstate NY. The cost of living in Albany isn't terribly dissimilar from Boston so that drives wages up. The difference is, 30 minutes outside of downtown Albany and you're in cattle country, 30 minutes outside of downtown Boston and houses are still stacked one on top of another and cost a cool $750k at least. I did like where I grew up although I'm not sure I could handle NY as an adult...

And you should know, I have a little one, moving anywhere flush with cash isn't going to happen
