Anybody have any insight on 2nd gen frame boxing? I've seen kits out there for 1st gens, precut steel ready to weld, but I'm wondering what approach some have taken. It's not at the top of my list, but something I was thinking about today.

The trail gear ones for first gens don't fit worth a crap. I would suggest making a template and cut some steel

On my old truck we just used cardboard to make our templates from the cab back.

That could be something that Rebel Offroad can mass produce. Boom your going to get a raise for that idea.

Yeah looks like that's what I'm going to do. I just didn't want to do all the work then find out somebody has gone and done the leg work of cutting it into a kit or something like the first gens.

LOL I wish we had the time or resources to mass produce such a set. Maybe I'll make a couple test plates and see how it goes. I'm just not comfortable with leaving any part of the C-channel like that, especially behind the cab.

Our frames are fully boxed from the firewall-forward, correct? (too lazy to walk outside and peek under the truck).

For the 1st gen rear frame boxing the ballistic fabrication one fit my frame perfect. Strip paint, tack, and go to town on the welding.

So dropped in a 3.0 radiator in with my 3.4 and auto trans. Added an "inline" trans cooler that's just like the trd option. Small on behind grille. We can't get the right barbed fittings for the trans lines to connect to radiator. So that brings me to the question.

Is it ok or adviseable to run the trans hooked up to just the small trans cooler, not connected inline to radiator as well?

Is it not officially for sale? Haven't seen it on the website. I'll call Tim about it tomorrow.

Ive heard its not the best, but yes you can. I dont see why not. I mean its almost same volume or more depending on size of cooler, and in front of radiator getting air flow.

Hey Cory I'd suggest running an inline hydraulic filter as well ,excellent passive volume & traps ALL the trans flash thats going to occur as trans heats up (perfectly normal side effect) It'll keep all that scale from possibly building up & blocking flow, ergo ending up with a pile of going nowhere cause my tranny's smoked & cannot stress enough SERVICE THAT MOFO' religiously, the A340F is strong but fussy as hell about maint.

We were thinking it would run cooler because it won't have the radiator full of hot ass coolant transferring heat through the core to the trans side. :notsure:

Not sure but I'll let u know.

Inline hydraulic filter huh....u got a link to something for our application?

I just don't want to f up my trans and even though I think I'm good it makes me real nervous.....

Hence why I took the time to tell you this bro' I wouldn't lead you down a path of trans destruction I've already been down it with mine... no link, I'll do you one better, call the truck shop here in San Diego, get James (owner) on the phone tell him that Doug/4wd from TW sent you for info on filter placement, I dont have a cam or pics of mine, James is also the builder/designer of Bilt-Rite, really nice informative guy...
