i like the fire extinguisher mod... good to have one of those in your car. not that a tacoma would really need it but another car burning on the side of the road could always use a hero driving a 4x4 toyota...

Not really a frugal mod, I actually had to spend some money for this one. $45 for the carrier and another $40 in metal, parts and hardware. It's still a work in progress, still a lot to finish yet but I think I like it. :)

    stuff
This was a quick, fairly secure way to lock a bike in my bed this morning. With a U-Lock going through the bed cleat, the cleat can not be unscrewed from the bed rail. I guess someone could pop off the front tire and take the rest of the bike, so I wouldn't do it with a very expensive bike. At least it will deter drunk college students looking for a quick ride, and secure enough to run into the store real quick etc.

If the knob can be adjusted out to loosen the clamp any what so ever, only thing you have to do is slide it about down toward the cab a little bit and you can push it in and take the clamp out of the track system with your lock attached. There is a little slit cut out so you don't have to slide it all the way to your tailgate to remove it. Then its bye bye bicycle. Just so you know incase someone wants your bicycle.

Actually, the odds of someone stealing a bicycle knowing how a quick release front wheel hub works is much greater than someone who knows how a Tacoma bed rail system & cleats work. That would be a 15sec operation w/o even looking suspicious. Seems risky but it also seems like the owner understands the risks associated and doesn't care. Sometimes a visual deterrent is all you need and certainly beats nothing at all.

I am a believer of the half-assed approaches as really being successful. This will keep people from stealing this bike BC they will just move on to the next bike with no lock rather than messing with this one. Same with people with ADT security signs in their yards... but dont actually have ATD. Most burglars arent willing to call that bluff.......

Bikes and public transit are for hippies and free transit ticket welfare recips.

A "Protected by Glock or S & W" sticker also works.

Or go sticker / logo / gang affiliation / LEO probable cause free as I do and regulate on the down low.

Keep it gangsta and on the near future winning side yo.
