So today is a sad day for me. My 3rz has about a week or two left on its life. I don't really need a truck anymore and I'm thinking of getting a new car until I can afford another Project Tacoma. My reason for thinking this is because it has 180k and if I just put a new engine then everything else still has 180k miles.. Any suggestions on new cars? Was lookin at Subaru. I'd say 30-35k is my limit.

5vz is the 6cyl Tacoma engine? I really want to do this but I feel like it could get pricey. Also I'm in CA so wouldn't there be some special requirements to get it smogged?

Lol I wish.. Just got back from a test drive with a Toyota tech and he said he can tell it's missing. I've already had a valve job so he said basically it's not worth doing a rebuild cause id have to buy the top half of the engine as new parts.

It's missing, has super low power, gets 15 mpg, coolant doesn't cycle, etc..

I know man it's so hard! I've put so much time,$,effort into this thing.. It's heart breaking.. I wish I could just find a really nice condition 04 dcsb 6cyl manual 4wd Tacoma. Then I would be able to just swap all my parts haha.

Who put the manual in the DC? They didn't come from the factory like that (if you didn't know).

Your willing to spend 30-35K on a car vs 1500 or so on a new engine. Just say you don't like the truck anymore.

A car would be nice but I wouldn't mind having another Tacoma.

An engine in my area that would be useable (jdm import) would probably be around 2500. Plus install cause I don't have the tools or knowledge so were talking 3-3500. Then 25,000 miles later my transmission goes out. Now I'm spending close to 7-9k total for engine and transmission..

Didn't know that. Learn something new everyday. Thanks.

That's silly don't get rid of it to go into 30k in debt. You can get a replacement motor all day from japan for cheap.

Also the swap would be totally legal in CA since that motor was a factory option for the tacoma, you would just need to have it inspected or BAR'd

I have buddy's that legally have LS1's in rx7's lol you should be okay.

what do you think you could get out of your truck? it might be worth throwing another 4 banger in there and just make it into a toy and buy a little cheap car to dd

You mean how much could I sell it for? I'm guessing somewhere around 3-5k. That would be awesome to keep it as a project.

Yea that's what I thought.. It will be nice not having to worry about what will break next if I get a new car though. Plus my company might put some money up for a new car. But I agree 30k debt doesn't sound fun. I think it would be more like 15 - 20k since I'm hoping I can make a decent initial payment.

This may be a bit strange but I have a squeak that's driving me nuts in the drivers seat. I took it apart and it appears my seat is rusting (wtf) but the squeak seems to be coming from the foam itself rubbing against the metal in the seat. Is there something I can put on the metal to make the noise stop?

I would try a cloth rag or towel and see if that helps. Most likely it's where the foam has hardened and is squeeking againts the metal supports. Or you could try cutting some rubber or silicon tubing and put it around the metal.:notsure:
