I've read it's good to still run it to the radiator as that helps get the transmission fluid up to operating temperature when cold. Transmission fluid is supposed to be within a certain temp range for everything internally to work smoothly.

I've also read with cheap non OEM radiators that have a transmission fluid core that there is a danger of an internal rupture between engine coolant and transmission fluid that can mix the fluids and trash your transmission. Supposedly Titans were having this problem.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The 3rd gen 4runners have an issue with the stock radiator/trans cooler and most of the 4runners just run an external trans cooler and bypass the factory cooler. Same trans as the tacomas. I've been using only an aftermarket trans cooler for a few years now.

Ok guys I'm knee deep in an SUA setup. When I was removing the front hangers I found a small rust hole behind one of the welds. That got me thinking:

Why not just cut that out and french in the front hanger like 2 inches. I am trying to think of why that would be a bad idea and the only one I can come up with is that moving it after that would be a ton of work. The real upside would be that it wouldn't be hanging so low when I'm wheeling.

    thought?

Obviously gonna be a lot more work than slapping some TC front hangers on and welding them up.

Might get tricky with leaf to frame clearance at full bump just behind the front hanger, especially that first spring bracket, also with how Deaver does their front eyelet your spring leaves are higher than the pivot at the front of the pack making clearance even tighter...

If you can pull it off, your springs won't be going into negative arch as much at full bump, and since you got E30's, you could benefit from raising the front hanger int the frame as it will help you lose a little ride height.

Depending on how you make your bracket and how you notch into the frame it will make getting that front hanger pivot in the sweet spot a little harder though as moving it forward/backward during setup is not going to be like traditional hangers where you can just cut tack welds and slide the hangers along the frame.

I wouldn't worry about loosing any travel if you do it though, from the amount of free arch in those E30's I see no reason why they wouldn't droop out to 20-21" of travel before leaf separation, if your drive shaft can handle the plunge at droop.

If you have a T100/Tundra rear end you could probably mount your springs outboard of the frame rail...

The more I think about it the more I think it's a can of worms.
I do like when people try setting things up different but I don't know if you can get the clearance between the frame and leaves just behind the hanger without notching a lot of the frame out.

Exactly with my driveshaft Any more and Id have to shorten it. Plus frenching the mounts in lowers the truck a good amount, which is the whole purpose of the E30. Theres a guy who did the same thing on TTORA. If you want i can send you the link.

Thanks for the input guy. Sounds like its a can of worms thats probably not worth opening. I already have the TC hangers so the frame just needs a little repair and its ready to tack them up and start cycling anyway.

Please shoot me the link when you have a chance Anthony. I know Ive seen it before but couldn't find it.

Are the 2nd Tacoma non-oem radiators prone to tranny cooler issues? I failed pretty bad and hit a jump (without a front bumper/skid plate) too hard bottoming out fully on landing and stuffed the front pushing sand into the my radiator. That bent it and destroyed it along with the fan, shroud, and broke the AC condenser mounts... definitely ran out of talent :itllbuffout:

Yeah it's the same as the tacoma. You just need a flat blade screwdriver.
