    This is my 3rd Tacoma

I couldn't be happier unless the check engine light hadn't ignited this morning.

    Well crap. Bad decision.
What should it cost to replace a 2.7l engine?
I'm being quoted 3700 for a donor replacement, out the door.

    It wouldn't pass emissions.
Check engine light lit up on the way to the station.
After failing, I took it to a shop that traced the failure to the 3rd cylinder lacking compression. They tried chemical treatment to clean it out to no positive result.

I'm not sure why the next step is engine replacement/rebuild but that's what this shop is recommending.

They found a used engine that can be pulled for 1750, then random parts and labor bring it up to 3700 and change.

I'm certainly no mechanic and will take a mechanics advice, but I'd like to temper that with some TW opinions.

Im sorry the guy sold you this headache and nightmare . But it sounds to me that he knew that the engine was bad and all he did was reset the computer and 50 mile later after someone bought it, light would come back on .Search around for other quotes . Im really sorry this happen to you .

Sorry that happened to you man. Stuff like that is why I am always worried when I buy a used vehicle. On the bright side once you get it fixed you will have a great looking Tacoma! I too have had a few Tacomas but never a 2.7. Good luck with your engine search!

It's all fix0red now, more than I wanted to pay but runs great and is legal. Got a new windshield yesterday.

I was just reading up on the e-brake fix that afflicts this truck (had the same problem on my 99 that I never fixed) and will be fixing that today, yay.
