I just found out that all newer Tacomas (most newer cars). are equiped with a so called BLACK Box , which tracks various functions which took place prior to an accedent.
Recorded functions include speed , braking or exceleration, airbag deployment etc.
Police will download the data & will be used against you.
Can the box be removed with out effecting vehicle operation ?

but why would you need to remove it? it could really help a case one day

no way out of a speeding ticket, if data is downloaded & used against you in court.

its tied into the airbag system so good luck trying to remove it....can the police use it against you? yeah if you are in an accident that kills someone and you tell them that you were driving safely when it turns out you were driving like you stole it....on the other hand they can save your ass from a hefty lawsuit if there is a dispute about a major collision you might be involved in

It was put there for a reason, just drive responsibly and you'll be OK, if it proves to be your fault in an accident and man up and dont short change the other party.

Nice that this was brought up. I live in the mountains and it snows alot. I have a dcsb so i don't feel like i need to be in 4wd all the time because these are the best trucks i have ever driven in the snow with these short beds and big cabs and i run studded tires in the winter. I was curious that if i get in an accident not in 4wd but there is snow on the road could they read my black box and insurance not cover me because i was not in 4wd.

It's probably integrated into the ECU or whatever box controls the airbag deployment and not somehting that can be removed. This has been somethng in vehicles for years now. It's probably not commonplace for police and insurance companies to read the data from it otherwise you'd hear abut it more often.

Why wouldn't you put it in 4wd? It is not a badge of honor to drive around in 2wd in the snow. You even need to drive in 4wd periodically to keep all the parts lubricated and functional.

I can't imagine that you would ever be held liable for not having it in 4WD. That would mean that anyone in a 2WD vehicle would be liable as well.

From what I hear from a guy I knew who worked for an auto manufacture the black boxes on the newer cars in the last five years have GPS tracking on them which law enforcement has access to know where your vehicles location at all times . Big brother is watching .

Can you get a horse and buggy in a 4x4 option? I really want color matched mirrors too.
