Aye, carumba! I'm confused. Somebody turned my suspension upside down:

Seriously, though, should I have gotten leafs that were way more arched than these? For what it's worth, I've got a pair of short ones (and overloads) that I didn't clean up.

Any advice will be massively appreciated.

Ok bro' ...Don't panic, this is fixable, you need to go back to the wrecking yard & look for a 1 ton S-10 commercial flatbed (idealy)..

    DSC06814_ca69e29931434d65337435a97977c148b8aada4e.jpg

Now the chances of you finding one of these out here in CA is slim, I've only found 1 in 3 years of looking, but thats ok if you dont, look for trucks that are spring under axle...

Everyone take note, SUA's are trickier MOD & extra attention needs to be used when looking for donors, typically SOA springs aren't going to help by the very nature of less ARC...

Crap! I was worried that was gonna be the answer.

Oh, well. We'll see what the pick'n'pull has to offer.

If anyone in the SF Bay area wants a set of leafs nicely cleaned up and freshly painted, please shoot me a PM.

So I picked up some stock 2nd gen leaves for next to nothing and I'm thinking of cutting the main leaf and putting it in between my current stocks pack main leaf and second leaf and then use the 2nd leaf off of the donor pack and cut to fit to go under the 2nd leaf of my current pack then ditch the overload. In theory will I gain 2-3 inches in height?

Well I don't think so. You will gain 1/2 an inch by adding the extra leaves, but Doug always tells us you have to :
    1. Get better metal in there, the stock leaves aren't getting better.
    2. Get more arc, if you put a leaf in with more arc, the rest will comply, giving you more lift.

The leaves you put together might give you more weight capacity, but may create a harsher ride too. Now if your leaves are worn out and flat, and the ones you choose from the donor are in better shape, you may get more lift to "stock" height.

    A few things
Well you'll at least get the thickness of the 2 leafs in lift plus maybe a little extra(depending on the arc). But you would loose it by removing the overload. If anything you could put another overload in there (for 3/4" of lift). They actually sell little blocks that are bolted into the pack (just like and extra overload but not that long) and they are supposedly better then lift blocks. http://stores.streetacos.com/blocks-two-leaf-spring-spacers-1-all-toyota-trucks/
I found some springs from an old Dodge and at first i put in an extra overload and 1 leaf that i cut down. I was looking for 1.5" and i had a little over 2" of lift. I had to take out the extra overload and them put a few hundred lbs of weights ion back for a week or so to get them to settle down some. Now with just the 1 leaf its perfect and rides nice. I guess it just depends on the arc of the leafs like mentioned above.

And the reason I hate this thread lol. I now have to figure out which leaf to take out of my 5 pack to drop me down since I'm taking off the 6in lift and Going back to 3". Needless to say if someone close wants some already cut to fit leafs I'll have at least 1 set maybe 2 in the next week or two.

    I will do that.

I remember the first leaf gave me almost 3in of lift over stock. So I'm wondering now it's had time to settle if I take the two out on top if it will give me 2in of lift. If so I'll be happy there. I want a slight rake so it will sit level when I have weight back there. We'll I already have about 125 back there now with the air tank, toolbox, compressor, and all the other crap in the tool box.

Heh. I love this thread. No other mod gives such bang for the buck. How much would it cost to get such. adjustability you would need bags, which have their own issues, or ORI's

Can't argue that for sure, it can cost as much as you make it really, same with the results, some here have done it for the total cost of $0.00 Given they have some old springs laying around or some just given to them...

& maybe a couple that thought they were going to make it a lower cost than need be, or a short cut to success only to find they cut themselves short by not listening.. meh, poTAto/ potato.....;)

If peeps just remember long spring ,less resistance, short spring more resistance & the biggest to remember is a little good steel goes along way
