Haha yes and no... I won't be able to afford the latest and greatest but I can step into an 04 and actually come out ontop assuming I can get over 17 for the trooper. But it all depends on time

But a 4runner would be sweet. They are roomey they have the power I want and the 4x4 I don't have. Ultimately I think it'd be a smart investment

You should look at 3rd gen 4runners. They are cheaper and IMO built better

Could get one in mint condition for $10k or less, then build it up with the remaining $ from selling the taco.

 

Ill keep that in mind, one of the biggest thing Im worried about getting an older vehicle is the rust.. I mean shoot my tacoma is already showing signs of rust I need to wirebrush my leafs and take some spray paint to them or else Ill be in big trouble. But I do love the look of the 3rd gen.. A lot!

 

Get one from outside the rust belt or make sure the PO took care of it. My truck has been in NJ since 01. It does have some rust here and there but looks pretty good and has no frame perforation. I plan an keeping it that way.

There are a lot of Toyota owners that take extremely good care of their vehicle. I notice this a lot on 3rd gen 4runners that are 14ish years old and have perfect paint on them. Generally owned by middle aged men.

But you are right that down there they've never even heard of rust lol. And since you know people out there you might be able to talk someone into looking at a couple in person for you. Then fly out and drive it home.

Watch that rust. My first gen was never off-road, was detailed and under coated every year. The frame rust still got her. In my opinion though, if you get a used one with a decent frame now from that era, you should be ok.
