Which factory was it built in?

The package selection modifies where it's built -- for example, according to a friend of mine who is a GM at toyota, all TRD OR, TRD Pro, TRD Baja Pro vehicles are built in texas, the TRD sport, sr5, and base models are built at both factories - I asked about the reasoning and he didn't know.

This isn't entirely true. I've seen 2014 Offroads on the lot built in Mexico & Texas before, back in January this year.

All I'm telling you is what I was told, I don't know if it's entirely true. Living in San Antonio, I wanted to go watch my truck get assembled but apparently that wasn't allowed lol.

I'd be curious if anyone has a 2012+ TRD OR that shows built in mexico though....

Yep, I guess New Jersey has a major port that is a distribution hub for several auto makers to the entire east coast. Not sure how it happens though, they could possibly ship them by truck or rail first to a port in the gulf where they are loaded into containers. Just a guess though. I found out my Mexican truck came through that New Jersey port by boat, because it was late getting to the dealer after he said it had already shipped. So, I kept bugging my salesman asking him what was going on.

Here my truck was coming into that port at the exact same time Hurricane Sandy was hitting NYC/New Jersey in 2012. First the guy tells me this by email and says he doesn't know what's going on and is getting nervous. Then I don't here from him for 2 - 3 days!

A few days later though he finds out they sent the boat back out to sea to float around while the storm made landfall. By this time I was relieved it didn't go through the storm, but was still freaked out that it could have some kind of damage. Picturing the perfect storm movie in my head! But the truck is solid with no problems. I was glad it didn't come in ahead of time, as thousands of cars there were damaged or destroyed in the storm.

My 2013 TRD OR DC V6 was built in Mexico and delivered to the east coast. So no that's not true.

I remember another member in an old thread saying that the Mexican plant builds mostly DC V6 trucks, and also handles a lot of custom builds. Not sure how true that is either. But mine was a custom build due to having the vinyl flooring in it, which my dealer said you could only get by ordering. I don't doubt that's true, because three other dealers told me the vinyl flooring didn't exist for the Tacoma.

That would be so cool even if you could just watch a video of your truck being built.

I was seriously looking at buying a 2014 TRD DCSB OR back in January in Black or Silver. The Dealer had 2 Black ones [1 Auto & 1 Manual] and 2 Silver ones [1 Auto & 1 Manual].

Both the Black & Silver Auto was built in Mexico. Both the Black & Silver Manuals were built in Texas. I was looking for an Auto built in Texas so I passed and waited until June and bought my Baja.

I've heard the Mexico plant is well run and won the award for best auto manufacturing plant a few years ago.

That being said - Toyota is moving there headquarters from Cali to Texas so you would think that would have some benefits for the Texas Tacoma Plant.

Probably off topic. What was this thread about again?

FWIW, a friend of mine was an engineer up at nuumi and according to him the Mexican tacoma plant had a better record with respect to the number of mistakes/reworks. I have no idea how Texas compares to either of them.

A former friend of mine had a roommate that knew a guy that worked at Nummi that may or may not have built my truck and apparently he said that place was top notch or so I've been told second hand

Nuumi was bad ass. They were producing a tacoma something like every 75-90 seconds. Too bad Tesla didn't take better notes
