Stock HU-12 inch sub in DC!

is it possible to wire a 12 inch sub and amp to the non jbl stock HU in an 08 DC ?
if yes how would i do it? im not very good at this so pics/links/etc is very appreciated

 

I guess it's technically possible, but not advised. You should get an aftermarket head unit if you want a sub. The stock head unit has four speaker outputs (front, rear, left and right). There isn't a sub output, and there are no preamp outputs. So, you would have to buy a jl clean sweep or like product. For the cost of the clean sweep alone, you can get an aftermarket hu that will sound better and do more than your factory hu will. Or you can buy an amp that accepts high level inputs (for the hu's speaker wire outputs), but since the factory hu has no sub output, you would have to use the rear speaker wires to act as a sub output. It's not going to sound good that way. The clean sweep also only has front/rear with no sub option, so you would have to use the rear as well.

Hope that makes sense to you, but the short answer is get an aftermarket hu.

It is possible to do. However, it is not the most recommended setup. 10's are generally easier to fit, due to mounting depth issues.

As far as power, you'd need an amp. How to get signal to that amp is where I disagree slightly with JayAre. You would not have to use a clean sweep, you could use a line output converter (LOC). They can be had for anywhere from $20-$50

That being said, I would still recommend an aftermarket HU. They offer more flexibility, fine tuning, and additional functionality over the stock HU. And if you install things correctly, an improvement in sound quality and volume.

 

i have a stock hu and a mtx 350 watt amps and a kicker comp 10 in my dc and have never had a problem

 

how did u do that?

and for the other guys is it possible to just hook up a 12'' a throw it in the back seat and then disconnect it and toss it in the bed wen i need the seats without any problems?
and i guess ur right about the HU so whats a good, easy, plug and play one?

i have a sound crew box behind the driver side back seat, the amp behind the passenger seat and a LOC under the passenger side seat. it sounds really good

 

do u know what LOC ur using?
hows the bass?

 

you need a line level it wires into the rear speaker wires and has rca outputs on it for amp or just get you a mtx thunderlink wires into rear speaker leads and has amp and speakers all in one had 1 in my f150 sounded great and still keep my factory hu

 

the bass is really good and clear and clean. it sounds like a 12. as long as u match up the right amp and sub they sound great. i will make everything rattle in my truck if i turn up the amp.

Absolutely. I got some banana plugs for my speaker wire ends so it makes it easy to unplug the box. Just make sure you have your amp's remote wire hooked to a switch so you can turn it off when you unplug your subs.
