I just bought a 2014 Tacoma Dbl cab TRD. according to the 2014 brocure, the TRD package and the SR5 package come WITH the Auto dimming mirror/outside temprature combo. This is FALSE.....does anybody have any explanation as to why Toyota did this?? its not a huge deal, I just like knowing the outside temp....lol. Ive asked the people at the dealership and most scratch thier heads and look dumbfounded. Some have said that the temp is in the NAV screen. This is also false. If you have Etune and are Bluetooth connected you can access the Weather Channel app and get weather condtions for your area....which is very cool....but its not what is advertised in the 2014 brocure. Does anybody know what happend to the Auto dimming mirror/outside temp option for the 2014 line????

    Thanks, Steve in Mendocino......

Just picked up a 2014 Sport and the same thing. The '13 Sport that I used to have had it, so it sucks that they would take it out in the '14.

That was part of the deal breaker in my Tacoma. It was the first thing I noticedwwas missingwwhen I test drove my 14. Although hesitant to throw it into part of the contract I insisted :)

I thought the temp was displayed in\on the touch screen some where, as for the mirror I've read somewhere in here that it is only with the off road package. But don't quote me on that one.
As it might be the weather channel feature.

The temp. sensor/compass was unreliable (fixed mine three times). Toyota probably terminated their contract.

All 14s show the "current temp" on the radio. Half the time it's not even of the current location you're in.

I have numerous posts on this issue, but I'll save you some grief...

I had a 2013 with what you want in the mirror. In 2014 they screwed up and did not change the literature. There are actually people who received a few $$ from Toyota when they called them on it. My 2013 was bought back by Toyota under lemon law, I now have a 2014. I had them remove the '13 mirror and install it in my '14. After the fact we realized that auto dim and compass works, but the wiring that you need for the temp no longer exists, therefore mine has no temp either. I do however have the temp in the Entune radio which BTW sucks. It doesn't always tell you your temp where you are currently located most times, in fact this weekend while on a trip it saved the last reading and said "as of 70 min ago", that's when it lost its signal, and I was probably 60 miles from that location. After restarting the truck, it's now blank and has no signal in my current location. You have to have HD radio reception in order for the temp to update. We all know, at least here in Pittsburgh, that HD radio reception sucks, in fact the reception over all with the Entune radio sucks on all bands, I don't get it. FM/XM/HD, they all drop out constantly! I can drive the same road in my Camry using an aftermarket XM and not lose reception once, the same road in my Tacoma with OEM XM loses reception on half of the same journey.

Currently I have not had a temperature readout in my truck for 3 days and will not again until I get home! Epic fail on Toyotas part IMO. Your only option may be to buy an aftermarket mirror like a Calibex. http://www.calibex.com/auto-dimming-mirrors/shop-html

The temperature sensor does exist behind the grille just as the 2013 did. From what I understand it is used by the ECM for engine management on a network called "Canbus". Someone mentioned that there may be a connector behind the glove box that could be extended to my mirror to make the sensor work, and there may be an option for me to add a sensor, but there is no easy solution.

I purchased a dimming mirror and temp sensor in a kit from a fella on eB@% and installed it myself. The factory harness is in the overhead under the overhead console. You have to run the wire for the temp sensor but it comes with the kit and is pretty simple to run. There are a number of folks here that have done the same thing. I am sure you can do a search and get all the information you need. They work and look factory.

For any future Tacoma owners I highly recommend hassling the dealer to throw it in there for free. .

I'd be very interested in knowing if I could run a wire from my 2013 OEM mirror to hook up a new sensor.

I want a home link! I have seen guys selling it. But for around $250 I'm ok with the opening in the little holder compartment.
