Super Awesome September Wheeling Adventure

Well jace or James, both have been helping plan trails and days, but we are going with James Thursday night, and aren't meeting up with jace till Friday.

ok i thought we had this planned?


friday morning, Eric and I and who ever else wants to join will meet Your group Mark near the base of webster/redcone. i thought thats where u were gonna be camped????


friday we'll do redcone, radicalhill, swan river> down low and camp. saturday travel to wheeler. id like to say we should hit that trail no later than 9... busy trail on the weekends...
once done with wheeler, hit mosquito pass. obviously this is all time sensitive based on how wheeler went.
if we can get over mosquito and camp on the Holycross road sat night, we'll be golden for sunday morning. HC is gonna be busy too so earlier the better



what u guys do thursday afternoon/night i dont think has been discussed. all i know is Eric and I will wake your asses up friday morning

 

My bad actually. I forgot Wishbone runner name for a bit. James has been doing a bunch of planning on here.

Yeah once you figure out the trail time for wheeler let me know. I'll be in breck on Friday anyway so at least all I have to do is pop over the hill.

Lauren, id plan on wheeler by 8-9. i dont see any reason we should get hung up between swan river and wheeler?

And we will meet the sat/sun people out at the trail at 8:30 to 9

September wheeling meet! 4th to the 7th

Thursday: meet in Denver around 4 to 5 and roll out to the base of Webster/red cone. Possible night run

Friday morning: meet in commig crew at the base of Webster/redcone nice and early and do redcone, radical hill down to swan river and camp

Saturday: travel to wheeler lake and meet for the trial 8:30 to 9 and begin at 9
After wheeler lake take mosquito pass to holy cross road and camp there.

Sunday: do holy cross



As long as everyone knows where these vague meeting spots are im good

And jace, shot guns right next to somones tent usually works well to wake people up.

only thing i dont have experience with is mosquito pass. im assuming we will all fill up in Breckenridge after redcone, swan river. fill up then hit wheeler. where are we gonna get fuel after wheeler lake????

as soon as we all get up and get ready to roll, again same plan applies. try like hell to hit the trail before 9

Ya I've tried, it never saves right or maps it out right. Then sharing it never works either

 

if you're at the base of webster/red cone...you can take hall valley up for a night run...there's an old mining structure up there you can check out...trail isn't hard but puts you up in a cool little valley..there's a water crossing and a little climb to get to the mining building

or head up the pass a bit to twin cone...

A quick Google Maps search and screen print produces this. NOTE - Montgomery Reservoir is the start of the Wheeler Lake Trail.



The marker is the start of Mosquito Pass by Alma on HY 9. Looks like if we need fuel we would have to go down to Fairplay. Or get extra fuel in tanks in Breckenridge if you do not want to back track. Or if everyone is good we can get fuel in Leadville after the Pass and before we head to camp. There does not appear to be fuel services in Alma.

 

yeah has anyone ran mosquito? quick and easy right? im thinking of filling up after wheeler in fairplay and calling it good til after holycross

 

It will all depend on what time we get off of Wheeler. If people are bringing fuel tanks we might as well use them. I did Mosquito Pass one time at 11pm. That was sketch to begin with, especially when we hit thick fog near the top. But as I remember the trail it was not too hard. Of course this was roughly 15 yrs ago.
