Had my first opportunity to try out my newly acquired Sig P6 German Trade in. I only put 100 rnds of WWB but it seems to shoot pretty accurate and feeds well.

Only problems were that the slide prematurely locked back once halfway through one mag and most of the mags failed to lock back when empty. I'm not that worried as this isn't for CCW nor was it an expensive gun. Mag springs seem to be pretty strong so I don't really know what else might cause it. I shoot primarily with my right thumb resting on the outside of the left thumb knuckle so I'm pretty sure I'm not screwing up the slide stop myself. Any ideas on what to check?

With the Mag empty, make sure it is applying enough force up on the slide stop. Also, Make sure the spring on the slide stop is not weak.

    Hey Chris!

With the slide off the frame I've stuck empty mags up the well and looked at the slide stop. The slide stop engaged by the mag follower seems pretty perky and strong. The range master double checked and agreed.

He also looked into the slide stop spring, but we concluded that the spring actually applies weak downward pressure. If it was strong it would it would overpower the mag follower and prevent slide lock anyway.

Hmm.....Im gonna keep thinking on it. Does the slide look worn were the slide stop engages the slide?

I thought of that too. It doesn't look worn in the slightest. The gun inside looks like it only had a few hundred rounds in it's life time. Only the finish on the outside looks worn and used.

Gotta be the magazines some how. Maybe pick up a couple extras, and see if the same thing happens with them. Also, may want to consider contacting Sig. They may fix it at no cost.

Wolfpack, both mags that it came with have this issue.

I'll have to look up new mags, perhaps cleaning the ones I have and seeing if that resolves it.

I've heard somewhere on the internet that some P6's were checked and given new springs before importing. If that's the case, I wonder if I just need to shoot more and see if I can get the recoil spring to wear in some?
