Hey guys, wondering if anyone can post a picture of the light output pattern of the black housing ebay lights? Pointed at a wall or garage door.

I've been going through a bunch of threads on these lights and people say they are going to post a pic of the output but never get around to it.

Most people say the output isn't as good, so I want to see if its even worth my time installing some.

    Thanks!

Assuming you mean the fully blacked out sets, the light output will be terrible because the reflector was either painted or tinted and is no longer as reflective as the shiny aluminum coating.

If it's blacked out (without the reflector being touched) then it'll be pretty close to stock.

Are you talking about the black projector housings? They are meant for standard halogen bulbs, but I put some HID's in the ones' I purchased, and yes, the light output does suck. As well as the cutoff. I had a lens flare in my right one, and it shone the light up past the proper cutoff point of a good projector. And the light was scattered, and hardly an upgrade to the standard lights on a Tacoma. Honestly, If I were you, I would talk to Andrew at TRS, and consider your options on getting a proper retrofit on your stock housings. I have the Stage III kit, and though there is some cutting, and you have to source your own mounting hardware, the installation was WAY worth it, as the output is awesome. I still have the ebay projectors in my basement, I tried to swap some of the LED's in them to make them like running lights, and couldn't get them to work after.

I am talking about the lights that look like the BHM but come that way. So the stock looking ones, with the housing that people usually paint black already black.

As long as the actual reflective bowl isn't touched, the lighting should be pretty similar to stock.. might not be as good based upon the quality of the manufacturing.

If you're not extremely picky, then I highly doubt you'd notice much of a difference (except overall cosmetic appearance).

If you do buy a set, run a bead of clear silicone around the edge. Those eBay ones are notorious for leaking.

I actually already have the set and already did the silicone thanks to info from this forum.

Since the ones I got do not have reflector bowls for the DTRL's or the corner parking lights, I'm waiting on some Trition V3 6 led lights for the DTRL's and some smaller 6 led bulbs for the parking lights before install. But if this weekend comes before I get the bulbs I'll probably throw them on anyways.

I guess I'll take a picture and post it in here when I do.

Well here's the pics! As you can see the pattern is of course worse then stock. There is a little refraction above the "cutoff" line, but its not so bad that it's going to bother other drivers.

The other pic is the 6 led V3 Triton's with a completely blacked out reflector bowl. Plenty bright! Should be no problem seeing them during the day either.

With the Ebay lights, most of them use the same halogen projector across the different car models. You never know if you're going to get a nicely tuned one or a crap one and you never know if they are going to be at the correct horizontal rotation.

This is a set I installed in my friends impala. Notice how each individual projection of light is rather narrow (halogen projector) and also notice the passenger one is not at the correct rotation.

Always go real retrofit if you can, you won't be upset at all

This isn't a retrofit at all. Just the black housing halogens from ebay. These are the no name ones with no reflectors for the corner parking lights or the DTRL's. I would bet that the Depo brand ones would be even closer to stock.
