hope some of you guys can help me out. I have a 2006 dcsb prerunner with just over 100K miles

I installed a skyjacker 2'' leveling kit up front drove it around for a while and everything was good

I installed the toytec TSB AAL(I do not have TSB springs, they said it was fine, just a difference in length). I am having a nasty very noticeable vibration around 5 mph and between 20-30. I tried the carrier bearing drop, and I don't believe it helped much or at all, so I took that out. I bought 3 degree axle shims, and installed those, vibrations are still there. I put the carrier bearing drop back in, and vibrations are still there? Are there any other suggestions? I am just about ready to remove the AAL.

Here are pics of the install (I know there are no bump stops on there, I wanted to be able to remove the centering pins before cutting it)

does it matter if my carrier bearing seems to have moved toward the back a little bit?

 

I think I saw a similar thread talking about this and I posted this suggestion there as well. Since it seems that different thicknesses are sometimes required depending on factors such as lifts and other mods, being able to use varying thicknesses of metal would help. If you used alignment shims, similar to the ones below, you could save some effort by just loosening the support bolts enough to fit the correct thickness (Or your test thickness) of shims, then just tighten up and go. Need less angle? Add a thin 1/64" shim. Need more angle? Take out a 1/32" shim and replace with a 1/64".....etc.

 

I second the above. I could not find 1/4" aluminum flat stock, so I bought 1/8" and put two in on each side. No difference. Took one out of each side and the vibrations are completely gone! I have the Toytec 1 1/2 " AAL without the TSB and 5100's up front at 1.75" and had tried the 3* shims (actually made it worse). YMMV.

 

When you grab the driveline how much play should the carrier brg have in it?mine has a lot of up and down play, I thought these should be fairly tight so driveline doesn't start a vibration. Thx for any replies.

My 05 taco is lifted 4" there is real bad vibrations from 1- 15km/hr
What size spacers should I install? Is 1/4" enough for a 4" lift??

 

I think that you should try with different measures, Is good to start with 1/4, but I think that you must install maybe 1".

So I have my taco leveled out with 3" up front and 1" in rear. I've had this vibration for months recently it has gotten to be a very violent vibe at 60km/h. The dealer couldn't help me out and I spent a couple hundo on getting my wheels balanced with a road force balancer. It helped for a couple of days. Well I just did this mod to my truck and it worked wonders. It cost me 8.50$ in hardware and 10 minutes of my time to cut some spacers and drill a couple holes and mount them. Absolutely no vibration at all I could not be happier. Thanks a shit ton for this thread

 

How did you know much angle to make your spacers?

Well at 500 miles had a vibe took to capitol Toyota San Jose. They told me this is normal WTF huh. I took it back a second time 1200 miles talked with the shop foreman he went for a ride with me said something was not right. Brought it back to have it looked at Service manager said nothing they could do could not find anything wrong. Asked to talk with the shop foreman because I did not believe the sleezy service manager. Service manager told me I already told you there is nothing wrong with your truck. Guess I am going to have to escalate this to a higher level. If anyone has had a dealer fix the 50 to 60 mph shutter vibe fix please let the Tacoma world know. We need to stick together. Maybe Toyota will listen to the masses. Oh yea 3000 miles and getting worse. One more thing Vinny service manager said he never heard of a vibration problem with tacomas.

I've made more and more spacers because the vibration came back. Same thing is happening to me man. If It isn't fixed soon I'm gonna lose my shit .

My 2013 DCSB Sport 4x4 (19k miles, all stock, original tires) is at the dealer today for the same issues. Minor takeoff shudder, driveline vibration anywhere between 40-80mph that's bad enough to blur images in the rear view mirrors. First trip to Toyota service they formally acknowleged the vibration was there and was abnormal, so I guess I lucked out there. Their initial attempt at a fix doesn't sound very encouraging, new rear leaf springs under warranty and they had to order an inclinometer to check/reset the pinion angle? I guess we'll see this afternoon.....I still suspect the u-joints/carrier bearing.

ETA - The service writer has already used the old "some of this vibration is a normal characteristic" line.........
