If I was you I would skip the CRC. Sound like you took care of your truck and frame since new and it does not need another coating added to the mix. I just read the letter again and it does not mention anything about extending the warranty of the frame etc if you get their CRC applied so really if your already take care of it and is in good shape, you are really not loosing anything by not getting this done. At least that is my understanding of the situation.

I just got Krown applied and will not let them apply CRC to the truck at this time.

just checked my 2005 - after cleaning the surface rust off, here is what I found. It looks like it is through the first sheet, but not the second. Should I take it in now, or wait? Thanks!

Thanks - I went through the entire thread to see other pics, but most were either surface rust or all the way through. I'm hoping someone else has one that looked like this and could post what was done.

Are they doing mailers? I have yet to see anything from Toyota. After the winter we had, I have quite a bit of rust on the frame. Especially around the welds.

I'm terrified for what winter will do to mine. I had absolutely NO surface rust before last winter. Now i have a decent amount. And to me, any is wayyyy to much. I want to clean the whole under side of the truck a coat it with rust encapsulator and rustoleum paint but i don't have the time to have my truck down for a week :(

If they send me a letter that they'll coat my frame, i may just let them do it :notsure: yet

If there is a rust "perforation" in the frame, they will replace it. Most noticeable near both cats.

My '05 looked like yours, outer layer gone and rust on the inner, and when I got it back from the inspection, there was a hole on the drivers side. They must have poked it through during the inspection.

TacomaJack, What part of KY are you in. I live in Louisville. Took mine to dealer on Aug. 1st. Told me I needed a new frame. Was scheduled to drop it off on the 25th. Frame didn't come in until 28th. I'm dropping it off tomorrow

Kryten... Thanx for the advice... I agree...

Taking it in tomorrow for quick inspection... and If there is no perforations, which I'm sure there isn't, then I will NOT take it back for their crummy preventative.... (I'll continue with Corrosion Free applications every 18 months)...

Whether or not the coating they apply is crummy, don't they warranty the frame longer for having it applied? Thought I read that somewhere.

I would think if they tell you to get the coating and you don't it would give them a out so they wouldn't have to replace the frame when the time came and since it is a Toyota Tacoma the frame will rust out it's just a matter of when.

I took the pictures to my local dealer - the service manager said the rust must go all the way through. Not enough for frame replacement according to my pics, but he would have to get it on the rack to check it all.

I'm in Newport, Ky and took it to the dealership in Florence area. Not sure why my frame is taking so long.... Makes me want to give them a call.

I was out running errands and stopped at the local Toyota dealer. Just got back from talking to the service rep. I told her I had heard some horror stories about 2005-2011 Tacos having frame rust problems like the older ones and that mine looked real bad when i changed the oil yesterday. She said Toyota will begin issuing recalls beginning next month in our area. It will be done in waves and to wait for the letter to bring it in for inspection and pics. They will determine if frame replacement is warranted or just rust proofing treatment. They do a "hammer" test. if there is a hole or holes from rust a frame is ordered then replaced. I live just north of Pgh in western PA.

I haven't been following the recall too closely, but I'm curious how bad the problem is on the 09+ trucks to date. I remember researching frames at one point and the part number changed mid-2009, so whether that yielded a new/improved frame I don't know.

I'll also be curious to see if this is a rolling recall in that as the trucks get older they get included. I have Fluid Filmed all over my truck and it's not bad, but I am surprised I'm seeing minor corrosion at the welds now and have a few chips here and there.

I'm going to keep applying the Fluid Film and see what happens. Hopefully by the time I need a new frame Toyota will still have this program in place.

No, I just mentioned 05-11 and the reply was that a recall was going to happen but she never acknowledged specific actions for specific years.
