You make a valid point, I had not thought of that. This recall is likely the only time the truck will ever be in a shop, I do most of the work on it myself. I am still cautious to sub-contracting out, I've seen a lot of crap work done by so-called "specialists". I would want to stay in the loop with who they are having do it, which I think is a fair request to make. I am hoping to hear back in the 10 or so days from Toyota Canada about whether or not I will get a frame. As I've stated before the dealer is fully expecting I will, but need the green light from HQ.

I am seriously curious about if they provide loaners, and what all they replace though/extra costs. I haven't been able to find all that in other threads, but I will admit that I don't spend a lot of time looking. Only breifly on quick breaks or my lunch while I work.

Just got the call for the inspection on my 08' down here in NS. Very accommodating, although the frame looks good I do not expect to have it replaced. Giving me a rental car until the issue is resolved.

A friend of mine has an 07 he just got it back from the dealer they did the undercoat on his, wow that shut is super thick, and they sprayed the hell out of it smells bad too lol probably just flashing off as I cures, seems similar to a por-15 or cold tar coating I'm tempted to pay to have my 09 done

Toyota just did the check last night to make sure the truck was in my name before I had it inspected and that it was on the road as well. They said that was pretty much the last bit of paperwork before they got the go ahead to put a frame on order and they now fully expect it to happen. Apparently the dealer in Brantford, Ont has 2 or 3 frames already on order for other people and they are backordered quite a bit. But it should happen sometime in the next couple months that I'll get a new frame.

And people wonder why the Tacoma hasn't been updated. Their budget for a new Tacoma is getting eaten up by all these frame problems both US and Canada. I think they got some money back from the frame manufacturer, but as we all know the lawyers take about 35% of any successful lawsuit so Toyota is paying out a lot of money for these frame issues with the Tacoma and the Tundra.

I've seen pictures of semi loads of frames being shipped to dealers in the rust belt. That's a lot of money to buy and like said above 45 hours of work to install. Even the CRC is an 8 hour job if done correctly. An eight hour job costs the dealer about $800 when you factor in all the costs. Multiply that by a million trucks if you include both Tundra and Tacoma. All the administrative costs to handle claims, it was a massive f-up.

In the arid west we don't see those problems, the dry air sucks the moisture out of everything including sandwich frames. I saw a 2005 Tundra for sale on a Toyota dealer lot in PA and that frame was rotted so bad I was surprised they had the balls to put it on the lot. Somebody had black painted over the frame rot in the visible areas like the rear wheel wells. Beautiful low-mileage truck on the outside and interior, look underneath and it looked worse than a 1924 Ford tractor abandoned in a field.

So I took my truck in a few days ago. They did the spiral cable/Access cab seat belt recalls but they would not do the frame coating. I did get them to inspect the frame and all they found was "very minor surface rust".

The reason they would not cover it was because the factory where the truck was built may have not had the same issue as where the other ones were built. This sounds like complete BS though so I'll just wait until my truck is under the recall.

They probably don't have a qualified person at that location.

Where is the dealer gonna spray?
    They don't have the resources.

I worked at Custom Truck Parts for a bit and they had contracts with all sorts of dealerships for bedlining and tinting which CTP would also outsource. This explains why going through the dealer is Sooo much more expensive.

My truck is going in approximately a month. I'm hoping they do a clean and thorough job. My frame has a lot of surface rust.

Can someone tell me how to "quote" someone's post? Lol .... Anyways. That video is really bad. Probably the worst I've seen yet. I took my 2005 in about 1 week ago and it failed. My rust holes near the front cats were about the size of a marble. Nothing like that. I can fit my foot through yours haha. But anyway good luck with the recall out your ways. Waiting on a call from Toyota when my new fram comes in!!

Anyone out there with an imported Tacoma have any luck with getting this campaign? I have a 07 that was imported to Sask back in 08 from Arizona, I've contacted toyota Canada and have not heard anything back yet.

Took my tacoma in today, and told them if you pass the frame do NOT do the under coating because i know it is bad and will fail so ill be taking it to a government shop. the guy was really good about it all and said they do offer a buy back Buuuut if the pay out is over some where around 18000 then they will just replace the frame, good in my case since i only paid 10,000 for my truck :) also he said if a frame does pass and they do the under coating then the frame will be warranted for another 10 years. that shocked me so if any one else is told that for there truck get it in writing!

should know more tomorrow and will post then!

What I was told by toyota was that they cancelled the buy back program a while ago. My truck would be worth more than $18000 to them regardless because they buy back at 1.5x the market value.

I'm frame number 4 on order at Toyota in Brantford, at least that's what I'm told. They've done several undercoatings though. It's up in the air when I will get the frame though, apparently they are on serious back order.

My frame failed about 2 weeks ago. Toyota said that it should only take about a week for the frame to come in, obviously not lol. The person at Toyota keeps telling me "it should be a few days". So I'm playing the hurry up and wait game. They also said there are 6 frames being ordered so mine is not the only one. THE GOOD THING, is apparently I'm the first one on the list ! .... Hopefully. This is the Toyota at st Clair and Jane area in Toronto. I just want this frame so I can put a lift on !! Haha. It's like waiting for Christmas is September. I'll keep you guys posted like I have been. If I'm able to take pics of the frame swap I'll post them in this thread.
