One last purchase, do the DIY bead lock wheels now.

Question, do you plan on driving this to the trail? If so aren't weld together bead locks almost impossible to balance and will he hell at speed? Or are you towing it

Ideally I'd like a combination of both trailering (long distances) or driving it if I want to. IIRC, balancing tires this size is generally achieved with tossing some plastic BBs in.

Wrong. I have DIY beadlocks and 40's with no wheel weights. Tossed a handful or two of Airsoft Premium in each tire and I can drive as fast as I want vibe free. Just did 480 miles each way.

Obviously ive binged the subject and had a few results and some I like just curious if any of you guys had used any sites and would prefer any over another

Geez man, keep the 40's and learn the damn truck before jumping into the starting line. 40's will find your weak points and racing on 37's will pretty much guarantee you never find those weak points. Just enjoy it before you decide to spend thousands on racing it.

Haha yeah I know man. I just prefer to at least try to get it right the first time, rather than buy parts only to swap them out later if an opportunity to race presents itself. That's all, really. Tires are the least of it considering they get worn and replaced anyway. I'm not sure why everyone thinks I'm complaining about 40"s haha, I was trying to figure out the deal with the wheels.

If I had the money, I would have spent the money on Trail Readys. With that said, I don't think I would ever be at pressures low enough to lose a bead. At 13psi these Nittos do really well. I say put some rock rings on your steel wheels and call it good. If you decide to get 37s or race tires, spend the money on nice wheels for those. For now, put H2 wheels on it to get it in storage. Cheapest 17" 8 lug wheels you can find.

Ironically this "divorce" build has turned into the "preventing me from having a woman" build.

I'd rock those H2 wheels. I don't think I'll be back out to CO before Thanksgiving though. Aiming for the beginning of November to have the truck in storage. :(

Problem is, I don't even have those. I was initially expecting ~$100 each for new ones, plus DIY beadlocks... would be getting close to what I wanted to spend on TRs anyway. But I just dod some more looking around and it's hard to beat Summit's price for these wheels so I may indeed go this route.

    Will do, buddy. [IMG]

I had been wondering the same, but I don't think you'd find a whole lot of difference between what all the vendors are offering. As long as you have the anti-coning ring, I think you're good.

    Edit-
Just called the local Discount Tire, they said they could do $80 per wheel, so I'll just go with it. This whole project is the manifestation of the proverbial 'pissing money away' haha.

Guessing they don't get many people ordering 40" tires around here, seeing that they know me by name and usually ask about build updates while I'm in the shop. :anonymous:

I know the feeling. Wait until its done and on the trails...that's when the people come out of the woodwork. I had someone stop me on the trail last weekend 9 hrs from home and ask me if I was "that guy from Indiana on pirate" because they recognized the truck, lol. And another guy said he had pictures of my truck from a trip he took up north to the Badlands one time.

Of course with no teeth it was pretty hard actually making out what they were saying.

Once the wheels come I will come drag you around in your truck so you can make vroom vroom noises :D
