Loss of power

So we went and did a little wheelin today, nothing too crazy, just mainly logging roads with some fire line thats been water barred. No pics, noone had a camera. So I tried to go up one side of the fire line and it was pretty steep, and I get about 90% up it and it gets loose and I cant go any further. So I tried it probably 10 times and couldnt get passed the same spot. I had it in 4 low and in L, 2, 3, 4 and in 4 High L, 2, 3, 4 on an automatic transmission and when I would have my foot all the way into it, the rpm wouldnt go above 2k. Is this normal? Its a 2007 DC Sport, 4x4, 3" spacer lift, 285/70/17 BFG All Terrains, stock gearing. It was pretty steep, I dont want to admit this but a jeep made it up before me, but it took him a lot of tries so he had the trail pretty tore up before me. Any ideas? Does it do this on purose to try to lessen the chance of blowing the motor?

Well i tried to get up to our hunting cabin in 4WH. It is in west virginia at the top of a mountain and the soil is very shale-y. There is one very steep part about 40 feet of road. I got about half way up and it bogged down and almost stalled if I didn't stomp the clutch and grab the ebrake.

It seemed to be normal, just the engine can't put out enough power to keep the tires spinning

 

I figured it was something like that. It was really steep, by far the steepest i've tried. I was so pissed when the jeep made it up, but I did pull him out of a creek a coupld months back, so it wasnt all that bad.

I just remembered this too, While we were going over a waterbar, we were going slow so I didnt jack anything up, and the driver rear was stuffed all the way into the fender. When I would give it gas it wouldnt spin, but all the others would, well more so hop. Both rears dont spin in 4wd, correct? Its actually 3wd isnt it?

 

Depends on your setup. If you have a rear locker both will run at the same speed, one up front will go on open diff. If you have the LSD, you'll have some slip on the rear but can sorta lock at times with tricking it.

So, basically most of the time, minus locker, you have one wheel front and back that has full power, and it'll be the one with the least resistance. Unless you're modified with front/rear lockers.

 

K thats what I thought I read somewhere. I do have the LSD. I have never had the truck at these angles before so it made me curious. Thanks for all the input.

 

well i know when i spin my tires on wet pavement the engine cuts power to prevent the slippage, im pretty sure its some sort of traction control, mines an 09 though not sure if that matters.

 

yeah I would say traction control of some sort, just a guess

 

Hit the little button that turns off Traction Control.

yah, i think it being an 09 does matter. i thought that was a new feature for 09 and 10?

 

When I looked in the rear view mirror the tire was stuffed into the fender and when I gave it gas I was figuring the tire was caught up or something.

 

Traction control uses the brakes. Turn it off. Glad I don't have that mumbo jumbo hi-tec stuff in mine!
