I am driving down an interstate on my way home from camping and here a loud bang. Look over and see a lady yelling at me and flicking me off, then she speeds off. I pull over and can't see any damage because the truck was dirty, just got out of the woods and it is covered in dirt. Get home, wash it and see a dent in the cab. It wasn't there before the trip, the truck is less than a month old and it is right where I heard the bang, so she clearly threw something at me. I have no clue what I did to her, I was driving in the right lane, speed limit and put my blinker on to turn off the interstate before I heard the noise. Of course this happens on a holiday weekend so I call my insurance company Tuesday morning when they open. They tell me to call the police and file a report, so I call them. The police tell me they won't file a report because I didn't call them at the time of the accident. So I then call my insurance company back and they tell me because the person didn't stop and exchange info with me (why would they), that I am at fault and I need to pay my deductible and my rates will increase. God forbid if they actually have to pay out for once.

Maybe something got kicked up on the road and did that, and the lady mistakenly thought it was from your truck? But in any case that's a heck of a dent -- I can't imagine someone throwing something from a moving car and hitting your truck with the force to do that.

You were in the right lane going 55+ mph, here a bang and assume someone through something at your truck. First off to dent the cab where that dent is, it would have to be pretty heavy and also aerodynamic since you are going 55 mph and she is throwing it in to the wind. Something isn't right :notsure:

My guess is something got kicked up and it bounced off and hit the other car and thats why she was pissed outside of that looks like a serious chain dent or something.... Sorry bout your luck.

No way anybody could throw an object to make THAT dent from the next lane over at highway speed. Your insurance company sounds sketchy as hell, too. Good luck.

Dayum! That sucks. It almost looks like an opened crescent wrench hit it.
Unfortunately, it probably be best to leave insurance out of this, since even if you tracked the person down, they won't admit anything even if they did toss something at you. I'd head to the auto store, get some Bondo and paint, and fix it yourself. Spend $50 or so. Maybe get to the back of the panels and try to pop some of the dent back out.

That isn't a dent fixed by bondo for $50.

I work with sheet metal for a living. Going to grab some tools from the shop and pull off interior piece and try to work it out softly and slowly from the inside. Then rubbing compound, wet sand and wax the outside and hope for the best. After what you guys described, your thought makes more sense. I most likely did run over something, still sucks major ass. Gotta love Baltimore.

If you're a sheet worker then you'll be fine! The high spots will be the fun part, at least in pictures those valleys look pretty damn deep.

Would love to see pics of the final product if you think to do so and post them. Really sucks on a new truck (and black paint!), I'd probably be just as hesitant to strip to metal and flatten it out and repaint. Though if you do end up going that route, your paint is new and will be easy to match than several years of UV fade.

There was no other motorist involved, so that's not even relevant at all. An adjuster would agree that another motorist on the freeway lane next to him wouldn't have been able to produce that dent, so they wouldn't pretend that it would and pay out for his repair anyway. He could have reported it as vandalism, like if he hadn't noticed until leaving work next week that he had a dent in his truck, and then it would be repaired I'd think, with a lower cost/no cost deductible.

Uninsured motorists claims require uninsured motorists.. like in the event of an accident involving another vehicle (not a dent) and the other driver had no insurance. They are two completely different things.

Hit it with some rubbing compound, it'll look like New.

    Look forward to it.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally hit something while on your trip? I can't see any scratching or paint chips in the picture you posted, which wouldn't be the case if something metal hit you that hard. I'm wondering if you didn't sway into a branch of something and didn't notice. You hearing a bang on the freeway might have been totally unrelated.

I'm positive. As soon as I walk up to the truck I see it. We stopped for lunch on the way back and it wasn't there. I drive like an old lady and am super particular about my stuff. There's no way I missed it.

Bummer. My first and only dent appeared just as mysteriously but I'm positive someone let their shopping cart strafe me. Not nearly as noticeable as yours fortunately.

You should call "Dent Wizard", their people do great work and are reasonable. I've used them many times for hail damage and door dings, couldn't tell there was ever a dent and I was out around $100. Money we'll spent IMHO. They are pointless dent repair, btw.

If you got comprehensive coverage, insurance will cover, but probably less duductible & your rates go up. I don't think it's worth an insurance claim.
