Hey this is my first time posting on here and I just wanted to hear others opinions about Toyota ditching the Regular cab option for 2015. I was completely devastated by this because I love my regular cab and I would have kept buying them in the future. And this was my chance to move my friend who is a die hard chevy guy into a Tacoma because the regular cab is cheap and has 4wd. Oh well maybe they will make them again in the future

    RIP RC Taco

When I was truck shopping, the only 4x4s they had on the lot were reg cabs. In talking to the sales guy, he said they had learned of them being discontinued and ordered a buttload of them. Apparently they sold pretty well around here.

Thought long and hard about buying one too.

Not sure what you mean by cheap? When I was looking at 2014's. Every 4x4 reg cab I noticed had a price tag of nearly $22K. I don't know, I don't exactly call that cheap for a relatively stripped truck. No cruise, no intermittent wipers, crank glass, no hitch etc...

I remember my first (and only other) Toyota truck... 1993 pickup (pre-Tacoma), 4cyl, Regular cab. Totally basic. Brand new, I think I paid 12-13k out the door. Those were the days. Kept it till 2010 @285k miles.

I heard about this too and was on the fence about getting a new truck. As soon as I heard this I went and bought a RC. For what I wanted and my needs, an access or double cab wasn't necessary. I wanted a 4x4 4 cyl and I could get that with an access cab but it was another $3500, go to a double cab and I was forced to go to a 6 cyl which I didn't want, plus that was a $9000 price bump. Paid $20k for rc, 4x4, 4 cyl, 5 spd. No SR5 package, just a base truck which is all I wanted. Kind of a good thing for me getting the last regular cab, it'll help keep its value even more if I ever want to sell it.

Well for 22k for a body on frame 4x4 pick up truck with Bluetooth and a full touch screen audio system out the door is not bad it today's economy that's why I made my purchase of a '14 RC Taco. even chevy stopped making regular cabs Colorado's they just don't sell it's really too bad hopefully they make the access cabs more affordable

I just bought one of the last single cabs made, I am really happy with it cause I LOVE single cab toyota tacomas/pickups, I am really sad to see them go! Ordered mine mid july, and it arrived just last week, couldn't be happier, except for the fact they are no longer producing these beast, the worst part is I want to modify my truck a bit, but being as it is the last of its kind at the moment, I don't want to do anything but keep it stock

Very nice choice I was upset they let them go, but they need to boost their sales so they need to get rid of the "cheap" option so people with buy more access cabs or double cabs which now they are forced too haha. I was on the fence about upgrading mine but when I had the opportunity to put on free A/T tires I couldn't pass that up :D

    I paid $35 for my 1988 2WD single cab 150K miles back in 1998.

I was rather upset to have to pay almost $1K for my 1994 (needed a motor) and my 1989 back in 2008.

I almost said screw this overpriced yuppie poser status Toyota truck prices that they go for now.

I don't need an airbag. I don't need power steering. I don't need A/C. I don't need cruise control. I don't need intermittent wipers. I dont need some stupid beeping noise every time I set something on the passenger seat. I survived through he last 3 for 10 years.

Shit my 1989 2WD winter beater hasn't had heat for the 2 years now because the windshield leaks and first took out the blower motor resistor which I bypassed until it took out the blower motor and I'm not about to but a $300 piece of glass in it.

Keep it gangsta. Keep it OG. Keep it simple and back to the roots.

I think what we need to do here is petition them to bring it back, or every time they email you a survey tell them how PO'd you are they stopped making them, only problem is it will probably be another 20 years before I buy another one, seeing as my current RC taco will easily last that long :D

My friend/ sales person at my yota dealer told me that a 3rd gen is likely coming in 2016 and Reg cab then is a strong possibility. I finally convinced my friend to by a new toyota and he wanted a truck just like mine just new (ive got the 2011 reg cab 4x4 manual) My sales person looked at him and said they have one magnetic grey 2014 reg cab 4x4 manual in the Chicago region that they could dealer trade all the way up to Superior WI, Just 1 left in this area. My friend scooped it up. Crazy the demand for them, but they are un killable

Local dealer in southern NY has about 10 2014 RC's in stock and can't get rid of them. Mostly white auto's. Marked down to around 22,500. I like the price but need more truck if it's a daily driver but yes, a shame they will not be produced (for now). My first Toyota was a RC 4x4 back in '87. Under 10K new.

Well, I just bought a 2014 reg cab Tacoma today. Dealer here in Wisconsin said there are not a lot of reg cabs around. So I jumped. Silver Sky Metallic can't pick it up til Tuesday as they have to install a cruise control.

edit to add cheap ass cell phone pic:

At least you got a slider in back. No wiper delay would bug me though. Good lick with your new truck.

I don't need or want a slider. I will never use it. But that was the color I wanted so I guess a slider it is. I will put an ARE Topper on it soon. The dealer charged me $385 for the cruise control installed.

    A little a this, a little a that...
If you like to wheel and don't need the space, the RCs are awesome. I see them all over. Hard to believe that it's not worth producing them anymore.

You can always mod it up to standards.
I'm going to get one if I can hang just a little while longer and if there is one left....'tis sad times in the Toyota Kingdom indeed....

My dealer said the short wheelbase (rc) Tacomas wouldn't meet the new 2016 fuel standards because the smaller vehicles have a higher mpg minimum and they couldn't meet it without an engine redesign or a diesel. Bought the last one they had and never looked back

No, the regular cab will probably never come back from Toyota.

Regular cabs were slower sellers and not as profitable, and Toyota wanted all the manufacturing capability for larger models.

But the big reason is thanks to the US Govt and CAFE, regular cabs would have to have astronomical MPG to pass (33MPG by 2017, and 45MPG by 2025). The following article explains this very well:

    http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2013/04/is-the-regular-cab-pickup-doomed.html
