Accessory Plug Problem

This is the circuit:

+ Battery >> 15 A Pwr Outlet Fuse >> ACC Skt Relay Open Contact >> Power Outlets >> - Ground.

+ ACC >> 7.5 Amp >> Acc Skt relay Coil >> - Ground

Your 12 volt power outlets / cig lighter sockets should be dead unless the wiring is modified. The ACC Socket Relay should be open until the ignition key is in the ACC Position.

 

So in other words, my 15a cig fuse getting power all the time is normal, and my problem is most likely a bad acc relay?

Could be Yes. Get a fuse tester and start checking all the fuses.

 

Swap that really with another known working one in the truck and that will verify if it is indeed a relay issue.

Not sure if this will be helpful, but the instructions on the 'add a circuit' state - disconnect battery, install the add a circuit with the fuse installed for the new circuit only. Connect the battery and check to see if the new circuit (accessory) is live. If it is (and should only turn on with the ignition key) reverse the way the 'add a circuit' is plugged in. Once the new circuit is functioning as desired, replace the fuse for the original circuit.

I used an 'add a circuit' plugged into the 7.5 amp cigarette lighter circuit and weird things began to happen to the 4X4 indicator light. I then plugged the 'add a circuit' into an unused fuse plug in - driver side rear door power window. (I have an access cab-no rear door)

The way these things are wired, you might have several circuits in combination with each other in various ways, so I am thinking the 'add a circuits' are not as safe as you would think.

 

Is it possible that the negative is being switched and not the positive?

 

See my previous post. The ACC Relay supplies power to the sockets when the truck ign switch is on.

 

He fixed it, it turned out to be his gps and camera wires had seperate fuses and those are the ones that blew..

 

They are only directional if you are tapping an empty slot for power. If there is fuse in the slot which you remove and re-install in position 1 of the fuse tap, it is no longer directional and will work either way.

 

For people who don't need a voltmeter or don't want to spend money on one, one of these is a good $6 alternative

where is this ACC relay? Mine isn't working any more and fuse is good. I cant find my manual

 

These links should help you. Note that there are 2 relays called ACC CKT. 1 under the hood in a small box beside the fuse box, for the 110V inverter, and the other 1 on the back of the under dash fuse box for the power outlet and cigg socket.
