Here is my 2009 taco towing my 1980-something horse trailer..
I also have it hooked up with the weight distributing system, no sag in the rear.. YAY!





I think the trailer needs a paint job. That is the ugliest green I have ever seen!

 

this is what i want to get, but the rv dealer seems to think my truck wont tow it. Its a 2010 jayco jay flight 22fb.

24 ft
unloaded weight 4,120 lbs
dry hitch weight 475 lbs
i have the tow package, load c 8 ply tires. What do you guys think? I will be getting a brake controller also..

 

our trucks can tow more weight than that cant they?

 

at that weight i think your fine. i tow a 21 foot boat and when its loaded down with gear/gas/beer its close to 5500-6000. I've also towed a 1962 studebaker truck that is a 3/4 ton on a uhual flatbed with no problems, and i dont have a brake controller either, just tow package.

back in april i towed the boat, full of gas, with all my fishing gear in the boat and 4 people and our luggage inthe truck about 150 miles wiht no problems at all. your fine.

alot of the time teh dealers have the stock truck specs which says a max of 4000lbs, for non-tow package trucks. i run into this argument everytime i rent from uhaul.

My trailer is very very close to this one in terms of both size and weight. Although I've had my trailer since my truck was new (2005) I am seriously considering a 5.7L Tundra. With the "tiny" gas tank in the Tacoma and the V6 you'll be OK for shorter trips however long trips dealing with any real altitude (over 5000') or wind and you will be slow and sucking up fuel with the tranny in 3rd or lower. I would definitely evaluate what type of trips you're going to take and how much gear you plan to take. You'll be wanting to keep stuff out of the bed of the truck to keep from overloading the GVWR once you get the trailer hooked up and a couple passengers. PM me if you want more information. The Taco does have a tiny tank for hauls like this. It's perfect for a weekender, and you "can" tow across the states but.. having to fill up every 200 miles blows. Make sure you using a WD hitch, Sway bar, brake controller, and you have the Factory tow package.

 

I pulled my half way across Canada this summer(Jayco 213) 4500lbs, good for short trips but I don't think I will pull it to Nova Scotia again anytime soon.

 

its gonna be mostly for weekend trips nothing too far ( 100 miles at most) i had a couple popups but i know this is waaay more trailer so im kinda nervous. I wasnt gonna get the sway bar, just brake controller but may rethink that. They have one of these trailers same setup just lightweight type that ways 500lbs less so im gonna check that out tonight. Thanks for the input. The gf keeps telling me to buy it, but got to make sure first

 

I'm too nervous to do more than 175 miles on a tank. I almost found out the hard way not to push it as well. On one trip to the campground I did fine with one fill up. On the way home though was bigtime headwind and had to fill up 3 times. Went from 12mpg on the way down to 4-5mpg on the way back. I now carry a 5 gallon gas can in the bed for trips where I might happen to need it.

Dayum! Do you haul that fully loaded? My dad has a 24' Carson fun runner super light but its still like 5000lbs empty.

 

Yes sir pulled it with two quads but i fueled up and filled it with water once i got there . so I guess that's yes and no But i'm def. over the 6500lbs.

I only pull 4 wheelers, i only got one pic of mine on the trialer but sometime we got three 4x4 on it to go on trips....

Is your tacoma struggling with the weight? I am looking at an 18' toy hauler but concerned about the weight.

Its best to have certain information about your trip. For example I've taken my 17 footer on a four hour drive to Yosemite and some time before the windy elevation increase (7000 ft increase), there's a few gas stations that will fit the taco and TT. Just a matter of maneuvering around there, which is really not a big deal, just about being patient. I filled up at the same gas station to and from Yosemite. I too get ~200 miles per tank
