You are in the right place, there is a lot of good advice here. Did they use the right adapter? That was my issue. Tacoma's need the adapter from Toyota, that is my understanding. Might also get a road force balance done.

wow you could not be more wrong.it is not used for what your saying.it is used for a few things one is to get a more accurate match mount on tires that not be brought in to balance using the cheeper method.they are a very useful diagnostic tool for vibration correction did you also know that it measures rim runout.and yes it is used for a number and that number can get your tires feplaced under warranty.would i pay for it everytime i get new tires no.it is used for extreme cases.i used this machine at my time at a caddilac dealership it is a very good tool to have and that machine made many customers happy.

What would be the name of that adapter? Is it a Haweka?

I'm not sure, they told me the adapter came from Toyota, apparently they didn't have it when they did the balances the 1st 2 times. I'd ask them if they used the adapter from Toyota. My truck now is much better.

I am going to the dealer on Sat. This is my 2nd trip for a steering wheel vibration above 60 MPH. At a steady speed, the vibration comes on and then tapers off to nill and then slowly comes back on and then tapers off again to nill. Does this over and over till the speed is reduced below 60 MPH.

Toyota shop Foreman told me he needed to use the Haweka Adapter. I have the 16" steel wheels with stock Dunlops on a 09 Tacoma with about 800 miles.

Check out this link, it will help. www.gadgetonline.com/Vibration. According to this a Haweka adapeter is necessary. This is a very good web site. It gave me a lot of insight on Tacoma vibration issues. I hope it helps, start with the dealers suggestion especially if they are willing to work with you. I was frustrated with my dealer until this last weekends visit. I think they finally got the issue fixed. My was done under warranty, Toyota told me if i had another dealer look at it that i could have to pay a diagnostic fee. That i did not want to do so it meant taking it back to the selling/servicing dealer. Good luck.

Had the second balance done at the dealer Sat. The Shop Forman did the balance with the Haweka Adapter.
NO FIX! Steering wheel still osillates back and forth above 60 MPH!!!!!!!!!!! He is going to take my truck to work next week and try other rims from another truck on the lot and if that doesn't work he said he would open a case with Toyota? Don't really know what that means but at least it is something. I am having bad feelings about this!!!!

To get the proper balance they have to use the proper adapter, the Haweka. That is what it took to fix my vibration.

A defective or out-of-round tire can balance perfectly but still cause problems like this on the road. A road force variance machine will identify this.

I bought a set of replacement tires for my wife's car at a small local tire shop, and had a very similar problem to what you're describing, tacobale. Bad vibration problem over about 50-60 MPH or so (bad enough to see the steering wheel move back & forth). There was no vibration at all with the previous set, so I know it wasn't the wheels themselves. After taking it back to them THREE TIMES and re-balancing, the owner finally threw his hands up and put a completely different set of tires on there. Problem solved... no more vibration. I suspect if he'd had a road force balance machine, he could have identified the bad tire(s) instead of replacing the entire set - and it would have saved me a lot of hassle.

Well I have the steel wheels and I don't think the adapter is needed for a steelie wheel but the Shop Foreman used the Haweka Adapter anyway and I still have the vibration but using the adapter didn't make it any worse. We shall see what happens next. I hope it's something as simple as an alignment but I don't see how, it tracks straight. The Shop Foreman doesn't think it's alignment either but then again he was convinced it was a tire balance issue!

It's a lot easier to identify when you put new tires on and this starts happening when it didn't happen with the old tires but my problem has happened since day one. I have no prior history with a new truck and unfortunately, neither does anyone else. I hope my problem is as simple as tires. Because I like the truck but I cannot live with this so either it gets fixed or the truck is gone one way or another. Problem with that is, I don't want a different truck so at that point I guess I will just be on foot!!!LOL

True, but I bet the problem is still the same... bad tire(s). A road force variance machine would isolate the problem much quicker and easier. When the problem goes away after your shop foreman does the wheel swap, he's still not going to know exactly which tire(s) are bad. Maybe he'll just replace them all like my guy did. Either way... I wouldn't worry about it. Easy fix. It's possible that a WHEEL is bad, but that's much less likely than a bad tire.

    Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice. Just doesn't look good when the Shop Foreman say's "I don't know" He says he has never had this problem before that wasn't a balance issue. I believe him because I know him, albeit not well though and has been the dealer shop foreman for years so I hope it's simple. Thanks again.
