I am in the same situation. Moved to Ottawa from the US in 2010, took my truck with me. Frame rust is pretty bad, but not showing up on Canadian recall list

I'm in the same boat, my truck was imported from Arizona back in 2008. I'm currently dealing with Toyota Canada to see what they can do. So far it's sounding like if my vin doesn't show up on the Toyota.com site for this campaign there is nothing toyota Canada can do for me

I wouldn't worry too much. My guess is that they are rolling the service out somewhat slowly so they can take their time doing it in smaller segments rather than having thousands and thousands of trucks coming in all at once.

I'm hoping they are doing the ones where it will be the worst and will work their way to trucks that are in areas less likely to have severe rust eventually having all trucks on the recall list.

Maybe I'm trusting toyota too much though :notsure:

Would you be able to toss some pics up here of your frame "failed"?

    Just curious.

    Thanks

Hey fellow Canucks...WATCH OUT...!!!! I took my '06 in yesterday and the service manager walked around under it on the hoist for maybe 5 minutes.... did not even touch the frame...(he just pointed out the areas where the Corrosion Free has been worn off and there is minor surface rust...

That was the CRC inspection... I then asked if they are gonna recommend spraying their shit on it and he said I', have to wait till next fall, cuz they are booked (can't do it in winter cuz this shit is toxic and they have to shut down all of the bays to do it with the doors open)...WTF...!!!

I will not put their shit on my truck and keep using Corrosion Free...!!

He then said that Toyota Canada DOES NOT pay for the complete frame replacement job...only the frame and labour....anything that breaks like brake lines, motor mounts, etc.... The customer has to pay for labour & parts....

He then said that they have replaced 8 or 10 frames and the cheapest cost to the owner was $4,000.00..... WTF...????

I thought our neighbours to the south were getting the frame and everything that breaks, etc during the process.... Am I wrong???

In the USA, are they paying everything..??

I basically told him to pound salt and I'll not buy another Toyota product...!!

    Over...

    UPDATE.

got the call yesterday saying my frame was indeed bad so they had to take pics and send it to toyota canadaand we have to wait to hear from toyota canada on what they want to do..buuttt they said yeah your truck is ready for pick up, when down today and got it. They knowingly gave me back an unsafe truck that they just inspected..
im not to worried about it but if anything were to happen wow I could only imagine the law suit

I bought my 07 through private sale so I haven't been contacted by Toyota directly, but I checked my VIN and nothing came up.
I did change my contact info for my VIN on the website in case something comes up in the future though. If anyone hasn't done that I would suggest doing it now: https://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WWW.woa/wa/vp?vp=Home.ContactUs.CIC&language=english

I guess I'll call in or visit them in person sometime and see what they have to say about it. Glad I found this thread though!

Sounds like your dealer is trying to shaft you. The one I deal with has been good to me with this recall. they took good care of the truck, walked for through and showed me where the rust was... Not somewhere you could just look at it for 5 mins, you have to look around some stuff to see it, but it was there alright.

In the states they are covering everything, but I was trying to figure that out with the dealer as well, and they didn't think there would be any cost to me unless I wanted to put some "upgrades" on the truck (Lift kit, steel braided lines, etc), in which case I would have to buy the parts and they would just install them instead of the stock parts when they started to assemble the everything on the new frame.

I've read about some BAD dealers here on the forums, but it seems like they are a bit inconsistent dealer to dealer. The one I have had to deal with has been very good to me, I'll never buy a car brand brand new, but I would be comfortable approaching the dealer in my area if I were going to. Just from the experience I've had with them so far.

If it's a recall there should be absolutely no cost to you. When I took my truck in I asked about the recall before I even took the keys out of my pocket. I was honest and told them they weren't going to touch the truck if there was going to be any cost to me. For them to inspect it there is no cost, because Toyota effed up, so they need to fix their issue, that's not our (the customers) fault they gave the frames a coating that wouldn't be tolerant to our climate.

I also didn't call or check online or get a letter in the mail, I just took it in and asked while I was out running other errands.

yeah 173 is for the frame, dealer will cover all cost you should pay nothing, they do offer rental cars if your over 25 and cover that too, the only thing they won't cover is if you want the extra insurance on the rental.

I gave my dealership a call and they said I can expect a call back in about a weeks time because there's a back order for parts.
They asked if I wanted to do the seat-belt screw replacement recall (said it was coming up soon) at the same time so that may be why.
They said they'll need my truck for two days, so if I need to be 25 for a rental then I'm screwed for getting to work. :rain:

I don't think I've got any rust holes yet, but I've got a lot of surface rust so a free coating would be awesome!

Can anyone post up pics of the frame(s) that failed? My driver's side near the catalytic converter has a rectangular hole through the frame the size of 3 twoonies...I would assume that would qualify for a new frame but you never know...
    Much appreciated.

Wish they would do this in the US. Pretty sure mine would be getting replaced.

Was the same story last time I took the truck into a collision shop. Had to get my pops to co-sign in case I wrecked the loaner car. Not a big deal though.

Had my frame changed. There should be no additional charges unless you start upgrading parts. Will keep you posted. Some minor issues came up after I got my truck back. Will pick up today to see if they fixed them including wheel alignment. Makes me worry about rest of job if they missed the alignment.
