no job, no prospects.....hell, i can't even find anyone to buy my motorcycle (that i'm selling on CL) to cover rent/bills for the next couple months.

i wish i had the balls to kill myself....but, alas....

Lots of super educated people without relevant occupations, unfortunately. I know of a few with PHDs who have worked retail for several years now. Gotta be incredibly stressful, especially long term

 

With what you know in our industry if your willing to move you should never have a problem. In 20 miles there are 3 plants here and in 3hrs drive there are 8.

Lot of availability in those fields in my area and slightly south.

 

North a Jersey is abundant with Pharmaceutical Company Headquarters.
I believe Glaxo hq is here in the Philly area too.

semiconductors, optics, materials science, solar cells, photovoltaics, diodes, lasers, electronics, etc.

 

Engineering or no?

 

well its true, i think about killing myself all the time. i mean, i won't, but i can't help what thoughts travel through my head. i would uproot my family if i thought that there was a real possibility of being in close proximity to some company would assure me at least an interview. but i can't really gamble on that "chance". i have applied to well over 2,000 positions in all but maybe 10 states in anything even remotely related to my field/degrees.

 

where are you located again?

 

Is there anything within the industrial military sector that might utilize these skills? I mean...I've been wanting the laser guns from GI Joe since I was 4! Just sayin.

Have you searched for those kinds of companies in the SF Bay area and got on the phone? Or just tossed a hat into the pool of internet randomness that is online hiring.

 

yup, applied to a ton of them....my old roomate keeps asking about if i'm working on making the 'predator' suit and putting lasers on sharks

 

yes, most places won't give you the info of the hiring manager, from my experience

 

I saw a video of a guy who made a "gun" that shot salt at house flies, and killed them. I'd be happy with something so simple and effective. Great slo-mo vids of fly murder.
