Fan clutch - how long can I run without fan clutch engaging on 2RZE

    I have the 1998 5-lug 2WD model with 2RZE.

    I noticed the fan was wobbly and clutch not engaging about a month ago. I had some other repairs and upgrades to do and was not worried because my OBDII scanner indicated steady operating temperature at 185 degrees rain or shine this Summer. However, I know I should not run without for too long - and I don't want to be monitoring for temperature increase forever.

    How long can I run without a fan clutch? Will it create hotspots inside the motor if I runs too long without it? My son had a 1990 with 22RE that overheated and blew head gasket around the same time that the fan clutch stopped engaging.

    I do not have air conditioning and I only commute to work via highway. It is a plain, manual everything, green, pickup and my daily driver. It's growing on me and I want to take care of it with only 98K miles. The owner before me was a doofus :confused: and letting it go. Who knows how long doofus ran without a fan clutch engaging? I don't think I should be either.

    Usually Toyota 4 cylinders are pretty cool running engines and with us going into cool weather you probably won't have a problem. But when you get ready to buy one this is the cheapest way I have found to get the OEM part without going to Toyota. Although yours seem quite pricey compared to the ones I have bought. According to my research this is the correct part # for your truck.

    I agree with your comments and part number and saved that part in my Amazon wish list. Along with all of the other parts I could think of based on tips here and my experiences with 22RE in the past. Thanks.

    Still holding at 183 degrees Fahrenheit after a bunch of stop and goes, but I agree that it needs to be fixed before the engine overheats and causes head gasket failure or something worse.

    It's been 2 years on same aftermarket fan clutch that I used to replace the existing aftermarket.

    I'd put Toyota stuff back on it especially since it only has 100k miles. Also if you ever take a fan clutch off leave it standing upright like it is installed in the motor or the oil will leak out and it won't work anymore
