What's the difference between the two systems? And what are the visual differences ?

    Not enough...
I have "Entune Premium", non-jbl but it sounds pretty damn good. i listen to house/dnb mostly and not an audiophile.

I think the difference between Premium and JBL is only speakers. Maybe a built-in pre-amp, because trucks with JBL say "JBL" on the headunit.

I understand there are some wiring differences, just didn't know what to look for visual wise.

JBL sticker/logo on the HU. JBL logo's on the door grills.

Also JBL is not worth the extra $. The amount the dealer charges you can go to any audio shop and get a much better sounding stereo.

    Don't forget the sub-woofer.

Couldn't disagree with you more - the JBL sound is incredible. Worth every penny.

I am happy with my JBL system. My door panels and plastic trim pieces rattle though.

If you go this route, is it better to skip the Entune as well and just get a 3rd party head unit? Or is Entune better for compatibility issues etc?

THIS! The base stuff is terrible. I drove an FJ with JBL… night and day. Still nothing too special, but def worth it if you have no plans to modify.

The truck I found had everything I wanted, except it was the base entune audio. It is just ok, but am planning on upgrading in the next year or two to an aftermarket (head and speakers) that will still take advantage of the back up camera, have much better audio quality, and have the forthcoming" car play" iphone functionality.

Audio upgrades are probably one of the easiest major mods you can do. I would recommend non-jbl and upgrade everything yourself. I had a 1993 T100 with an awesome sounding stereo, I upgraded the speakers, head unit, and added a sub. I miss the sound system in that old truck :(

This is exactly what I am trying to do. I want a 2015 with the lowest, basic Entune audio so that I can swap it out with an Alpine deck. One of the dealers that I am working with is trying to tell me that the lowest deck that he can get on a 2015 from the Toyota factory is the Entune Audio Plus. That adds over $600 to the price, and I get absolutely no benefit out of it. I don't really buy his story - I'm going to check with a few other dealers.

I drove a 2014 with entune + nav for a month. I thought the sound was meh.

The JBL in my 2011 sounds fantastic. I usually upgrade the sound system in all my cars and replace everything. I was thinking I was going to have to get a 10in sub and amp for the 2011 due to how the 2014 sounded. When I heard it I was impressed with the little JBL sub! I will not be changing the speakers.

Like was said though the plastics around the sub rattle a little. I will be applying some ram mat all over back there.

I test drove a model with the JBL+sub. It sounded pretty darn good. $2,400 if I remember though. And I want to tear out the compartment behind the rear seats for tools. Can't do that with a big sub right there. This forum is great. Found some alternate ideas for sub locations as well.

I own a 2014 with the JBL and I am happy with it. I agree that you can purchase a better system for cheaper but I figure I would save my self some headaches by just getting the JBL.

How much more does the JBL system add to the sticker price versus the base radio?

$2330 and you pick up Nav as well. I haven't seen base radio on the trucks in my area, just Entune Plus as the low end. The Entune Plus is like $680. These are MSRP prices.

I just went through this with my 2014 non JBL. The stock head unit has the worst sound signal I have ever seen. It's very low power, and there is a lot of hiss in it. However, it's completely integrated with the truck and has loads of bells and whistles.

I dropped about $800 for new speakers all the way around, a 5 channel amp, 12" Fostek sub, and a miniDSP sound processor. Took a couple weekends to install but the sound is fantastic. I kept the head unit too.

If you put the $2300 that the JBL upgrade costs into a totally new system, you'd have an incredible system. I haven't heard a JBL, but I've seen them and it ain't that great.

The 2011 I had came with the jbl sub in the back of the access cab. It wasn't very good. It distorted a lot and couldnt take much volume. Basically just took up space.

My 2013 double cab is the non etune touchscreen radio. It sounds way better. Bass is solid and clean. Non of that bllllrrrrpppp bllllllrrrrpppp bllllrrrrppp like I'm rolling around in the hood with a loose license plate. I don't know if they changed the sound system or what, but it sounds way better than the jbl I had.

My 2013 double cab has the non jbl with the touchscreen non etune. Let me tell
