Any unseen difference with the 2015 models that fixes the vibration issue?

Is there any chance Toyota did something with the drivetrain etc that solves the vibration issue it seems so many people have? This is the one issue that is preventing me from pulling the trigger on a Tacoma.

Which vibe are you talking about? Most vibes only occur after you lift it so I don't think Toyoya will care.

I traded a 2011 Tacoma double cab auto 2.7 on a 2014 Tacoma double cab auto 4.0 April 2014. I'm happy to report the new truck has not had any significant drive train vibrations like what I experienced on the 2011. The latest TSB appears to have effectively addressed the issue and I was told by Toyota Rep that most of the 2014's manufactured after December 2013 and later have been modified during assembly to meet the revised driveline angle. Those that haven't, should get the latest TSB done. I may need to get the engine knock TSB-0044 however.:)

I had no problems with mine before putting my lift on, and after aligning the driveshaft angles to match what they were prior to the lift, I still have no problems.

I don't understand what everyone is talking about with vibration issues? Am I just not able to wad up my panties as well as the ones who complain? Is my butthole not constantly clenched into a white-hot balloon knot?

For what it's worth, re-torquing my rear axle leaf spring u-bolts to 73 ft. lbs. solved 98% of my "vibration under acceleration issues."

I've read about 20 threads on here talking about vibration between 15-25 mph, vibration at 60 mph, steering wheel vibration, all sorts of crazy problems with different TSB's, multiple trips to get it fixed, all kinds of crazy fix ideas, and trucks all the way through 2014's being affected.

Have a 2014 Double Cab, 2.7, PreRunner. Zero vibrations at any speed, but then again my engine may be so tiny that it just doesn't make enough torque to cause any vibrations. Actually quite smooth. Much smoother than the $50k F-150, FX4, EcoBoost I sold to get the Tacoma.

Sounds like you've dug up enough evidence to dissuade you from purchasing a tacoma, then?

I don't understand what you're asking for in this thread?

Someone to stand up and say 'fuck that, all the info you found is bunk and all Tacomas are perfect forever for sure no matter what I love you hugs and kisses.' ???

I've got a 2014 that's smooth like butter, and I enjoy it very much. I don't have vibes. You're gonna have people say they do and people say they don't have vibes. Test Drive a truck and if it doesn't piss you off too much, go ahead and get it.

    Breathe in, breathe out repeat.

OK, yeah there are a lot of vibrations threads on TW. Yep.

MOST of them are people trying to solve problems created by lifting the truck and putting on oversized tires and rims. The most common is driveline vibration. Then there's bad tire balance, and inability to properly center aftermarket rims on the hubs. Sometimes, it's front diff vibration. If you're not lifting your truck, you don't need to worry about ANY of these.

Now, some folks, very few really, have had problems where there's a vibration in a factory truck that they're not happy with. Folks have different standards for how smooth they expect a truck to be from the factory, and different trucks will have different levels of vibrations. HOWEVER - pretty much all of these would have been revealed if the owner took a good long 20 mile test drive in the truck before signing on the dotted line.

    SO, there you go.
    1. Pick one off the lot (don't order it)
    2. Wave a fistful of money at the salesman to prove you're serious
    3. Insist on a Loooooong test drive before signing on the dotted line
    4. Don't let the salesman yap or turn on the radio while you're driving - pay attention to all potential vibrations that might bug you
    5. Then either buy it or don't.
    6. Be happy.

Oh, and be sure you get a V6 automatic transmission combination.

You know, when I first got my 2013 V6 6-Speed Manual AC 4x4 I had a little shudder/vibration when coming to a stop from say 50-20. I just realized it's gone. It must have gone away at about 1,500 miles. Maybe it was just a matter of the tires wearing in a bit, or the brakes bedding in... but in any case, I can say now that I have no issues with the truck.

My 2013 did not have a vibration issue when I purchased it, but after 1500 or so miles, it developed vibrations at 45 and 65 mph. The dealer was able to eliminate most but not all of it. After I lifted it, I again had a vibration issue. By shimming the CB, I was able to reduce it to an acceptable level.

My situation was similar. No vibes when new but did develop a take off vibe after a thousand miles or so. Dealer performed the latest tsb (shims and new leaf packs) and the vibes were gone. After lifting, had a deceleration vibe from 25-20. Installed cb shim and vibe is only 22-20 now.

Umm the thread was created to specifically ask about the 2015's. Hence the "2015" in the thread title and original post, and wondering if any internals had changed for the new year model that would be answers to this problem.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I don't plan on getting it lifted or putting crazy tires/rims on it, so I guess that's in my favor. There's no way any dealer around here would let me take one out for 20 miles, especially considering it would take ~2.5 hours to travel 20 miles in LA traffic. Also in a lot of the vibration threads you mentioned, people were commenting that the vibrations didn't begin until 10k miles, 20k miles, etc.

My concern with a 2015 is that if everything is the same as 2014 and the vibration problem occurs, there won't be a tsb covering the 2015 model to fall back on with the dealer.

At some point, you pay your money and you take your chances.

Some kinds of rare problems are easier to see because there's an enthusiastic forum available (TacomaWorld) where folks post the good and the bad about their trucks.

You'd never hear about any problems like that on, say, a Ford Taurus, because unless they rise to the level of headline grabbing news and 60 minutes expose there's no forum like this where enthusiasts gather for most of your 'mundane type' cars.

You can always buy the extended warranty package from Toyota. I know a lot of dealers try to avoid basic warranty services, but with something you actually paid for, it's harder for them to say no. I always paid extra for the extended warranties for my new cars, and never had issues with dealerships refusing to fix stuff. True with my Subaru, Honda and Toyota for the past 10 years. The hard part is getting it for the right price.

    squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I highly doubt they changed anything between the 2014 and 2015 models as far as the driveline in response to the tsb. But bitch and moan enough and the dealer shouldnt have a problem apply the tsb to the truck if its a 2015

That stated, look at one. go find a DCSB sport or OR and look at the leaf pack, is it a 4 leaf pack with a bottom shim... they yes they have applied the tsb to the trucks coming off the line. But i doubt it.

Also test drive.... from a stop roll into the throttle pretty good, vibes should be pretty apparent. I noticed it on mine very quickly on the test drive.
