Haha, true but it's 170 miles that go through LA...which sucks and I've done it way too many times already. My buddy and I were planning on a climbing trip this weekend but had to cancel, so if he wants to do it next weekend I'm definitely doing that, but otherwise I'm pretty sure I'll be headed up there with you guys.
When you thinking of heading out, Dave?

    That's insane!

What? Where are you climbing?! Obviously not the good places :p
San Diego has some pretty good climbing. The less-climbed areas (like Valley of the moon off the Elliot mine trail, Mount Woodson and poway crag in Poway, and a few other places off of interstate 8) are usually pretty grippy granite. Some of them are close to off-roading places or require 4wd to get there, so that's a plus.

Hmm...well that might be ok going westbound, so my parents say. I've just always tried to hit off-peak hours like 10:30am and 3:30pm if I go during the day. Otherwise I'll try to get through near sunrise.
I'm still not sure if my buddy wants to go climbing next weekend. If he does, I'm going climbing. If he doesn't, then I'm leaving early morning Saturday to get up to Gorman. I'd probably try to get up to Gorman by 7am.

EDIT: Looks like my buddy's down to climb, so I'm out for this trip unless it gets too hot out there next weekend.

Hmm yeah I don't know much about the santa barbara climbing. When I was at school at Davis I didn't get out climbing outdoors enough. I wish I went to Tahoe! I'll get up there to climb some day. Mt. Woodson is pretty good! If you want to add some more miles to your trip list this year, let me know and we can head out to Valley of the Moon/Elliot Mine to do a wheeling + climbing trip. Valley of the Moon's granite is pretty similar to Mt. Woodson, but a bit more rotten, unfortunately. A lot of it's pretty good, and the place is huge and relatively untouched, though, which is awesome!

    buddy #1 checking in.

We doing miller jeep trail right? (honestly the stuff in frazier area is soo much better than anything gorman has to offer, you can look down at the gorman basin - 3kft above sealevel, from the top of frazier at 8k ft) We could leave from gorman and take it and a couple more trials to the top of fraiser mtn, very cool spot. 4x4 definitely needed, locker i could foresee a couple of spots being helpful!

Btw, here is a map of the trails in the frazier area. Its what snowsk8air2 and I use for dirtbiking out there.

I am probably going to be out for this trip, since it looks like you guys are wheeling at hungry valley. If you guys make it down to Ocotillo I may still come out.
