That might be my problem with it or the wood choice it looks to me almost to random even though it serves a purpose.

 

My first attempt at rebuilding anything by myself. A little rough, but I'm happy & it works. It will probably out live me, now.

All this material is from some 2" Old Growth Fir strip flooring we took up during a renovation I did of a house built in 1942

The grain is amazing on this stuff , I counted 48 years across this 1" wide piece , making just this piece older than my time on this planet

Yeah yeah did some paying work today, can't spend all my time in the shop.

 

Question for the wood workers. I have stained and varnished doors and wood work throughout my house. Unfortunately the previous owners where not very careful when it came to painting by any if it, or moving things around it. So I have paint splatter and scuff marks on it. For example :

Is there anyway to remove the paint and scuff marks without damaging the varnish? Or am I going to have to suck it up and sand it all down and refinish it all?

 

If it's just latex paint, it should come off with a wet rag or scotch brute pad (don't push too hard). If it's really stuck on there, you could try a razor blade at as shallow an angle as you can get.
