That should be a nice setup indeed, the torque difference will be noticeable thats for sure. I heard somewhere that changing the front sprocket down 1 tooth is similar to knocking 3-4 teeth off the rear. I bought my bike with a 14/51 setup and i switched it to 13/53 which was a stump puller. 13/51 is purrrrrfect. Plenty of torque :burnrubber:

1 tooth down is the same as 3 up in the rear. Motomummy has a good faq about sprockets and chains that id suggest anyone to read. I'm tempted to do -1/+2 on my cbr sometime soon.

Depends on the ratio from front to rear. But that's a good rule of thumb.

Your above gearing ratios are closer to 1f=4r. Again, it depends on your ratios.

14/51= one tooth front equals 3.64 teeth rear
13/53= one tooth front equals 4.07 teeth rear
13/51= one tooth front equals 3.92 teeth rear

Gonna change up the tuning some. Found some recommended settings from a guy that is apparently the end all be all person when it comes to the EJK tuner and these bikes.

Interested to see if I can push more out of this thing, but I may lose my low backfiring sound when engine braking that I like so much... Haha :(

The more I modify this thing the more I want to get the big bore kit in the future... :anonymous:

Either that or buy a WR450F and convert it once this thing's paid off. :notsure:

    Yeah, we'll see.

I should have it paid off by July.

Then I'll either keep it until I get the WR450F/CRF450R I want street legal, or keep it so the gf has a bike.

I'm a Honda guy but, the WR makes a better street conversion because it uses stainless valves, the CRF uses titanium (so does the YZF) that are not suited for constant RPMs, like cruising the highways. Check in over on ThumperTalk.com and read till your hearts content.

    Good to know...

I'll definitely be reading up when the time comes to make a purchase.

WR's also have better aftermarket support, also cheaper if I decide to start with a new bike :spy:

Got the 42T rear sprocket thrown on today.

Was expecting a loss of top-end. But I can get to 85 much quicker/easier now.

Makes wheelies slightly better too :D

    Nope.

By wheelies I mean getting the tire up over a foot off the ground and then coming back down. Not holding it out.

Not to be a dick, but i didn't expet much more than that. :)

You think i jumped on a bicycle and could wheelie 1-5th gear all of the sudden? Naw bro. Couldn't even.

I'm not expecting to be a wheelie pro either. Especially with so little miles under my belt. So not exactly sure what you're getting at haha :notsure:

The bike's more than capable enough to wheelie in 1st and 2nd, I just have to get over my fear and throttle out. Once I get that out of the way I'll start shifting up.

I mean I didn't figure you would be doing 12oclock wheelies and chasers all the way to 4th gear....

Balance point is also tricky esspecially with something much so heavier tham a bicycle

Oh definitely. I'd love to at some point, but I don't see this bike being able to hold a wheelie past 3rd.

I still haven't found a good place to practice, only empty roads/areas are dirt which doesn't work haha

I've come close to my balance point once, it's scary when you feel it haha

I tend to forget to scoot back on the seat before I try to wheelie :anonymous:

Bent my brake lever all the way back... Haha

Not being able to use your rear brakes on a ride definitely makes you realize how often you use them.

Got the Pro Taper bars and pillow top grips installed today.

Had to get new bars because the bike got knocked over when the forks were locked. Bent the oem bars bad enough that it chipped the black coating and caused stress cracks in the bars....

Once I get the hand guards re-installed tomorrow I'm hoping to do a little riding...

Also had to replace the rear brake pedal. Gave it some gas to get over a log and on the other side was a stump. Came in a little too hot and it bent it back pretty good... Haha
