You can still despise Dodge, give credit to Cummins. The Dodge parts will break soon enough :D

Shrug. My family's always had good luck with Dodge. Their last one had just under 200k on the original driveline, without any rebuilds. But they've always had 5 speeds; not sure I'd ever buy a Dodge with a slushbox.

The older Dodges were fine, I wouldn't say the same about the new Rams though. The Cummins is an impressive powerplant but I wouldn't trust the truck Dodge built around it.

Can you still buy a new full size truck without a slushbox?

No personal experience with the newer Rams. The parent's last one was a 2002, which they bought because it was the last year for the 318. Rear crossmember on the frame broke (because rust) and when they brought it into the mechanic to have a new one welded in he told them that there was nothing to weld it to (again because of rust).

You can get the new Rams with one, but you've got to have it bolted to a Cummins.

Which means you've got to have at least a 3/4 ton.

Oi. I just "built" one on their website: the cheapest 4x4 with a Cummins and a stick is $40k. A loaded unit runs nearly $70K (4x4 Megacab Cummins w/all the bells & whistles)

    WTF?!

I think that might be the only full size truck left that you can still get a manual transmission in, at least in the U.S.

Just searched. I'm 99.6% sure the diesel ass-ram is the only manual left

Man, They've really gone nuts with power for the diesels now.
The Cummins does 850lb/ft and 385hp.
The Duramax makes 765lb/ft and 395hp.
The new 2015 Powerstroke is going to make 860lb/ft and 440hp.

Damn... That's just silly power. They keep one upping each other with towing and hauling capacity also. I think one of them claims to be able to tow 30k lbs! At some point, sure the engine and driveline will handle it but the truck just doesn't have enough ass to really handle that much weight.

    yep.
I kind of wonder if the new Aluminum panels will negatively impact towing capacity on the new Fords.

I bet they increase the towing and hauling capacity by the weight savings. I believe mine is rated to tow 8k lbs and I don't even have the max tow package. The max tow package bumps it up to 11k lbs

Damn. You'd need a very well-distributed trailer to even get close to that. Isn't the max tongue weight on those trucks only 500lbs?

I'd have to check but I think I can go up to 650 without 'needing' a W/D setup. I haven't done much research on it because I don't plan on towing anywhere near that, at least not anytime soon. At some point I might get a travel trailer but that's a ways off...

Ok, so iv'e seen a Tacoma in and around the Haverhill/Boxford area. Graphite Metallic DC, looks to be long bed, with 3" lift and front winch bumper. Wondering if it's anybody on here.
