Honestly there are very few instances where power is the answer. Traction, IMHO, is more important. Once the wheels spin it doesn't matter if you 200 or 2000 HP. Spinning is spinning. Yes more HP is usually seen as a great thing. That is also more stress and torque you placing on the rest of the drivetrain. Adding power is easy. Adding reliable power will cost you a bit more. Even if you get the Chevy with 305hp, how reliable do you really think it will be?

Wait, do you think it will be unreliable because it's a Chevrolet or because it has 305hp...

There are plenty of reliable cars and trucks with higher horsepower numbers so I don't exactly follow your logic on this one. I think 300 hp for a 2015 MY mid-size truck is fine and will not be an issue at all with wheel-spin or reliability depending on the rest of the drive-train.

Because Chevy. Spend X and it's worth 20% of original price in 5 years, by 100K miles everything will be broken or leaking.

My mother in law is hardcore GM. same old story. Buy one, spends hours for recalls or warranty work. Drives it 50-75K. No extended warranty, so out of pocket. Gets sick of it and trades it in on another worthless product with no trade in value but gets suckered under GM loyalty program.Makes me ill how lemmings follow each other of the cliff. Then she knocks me for buy "Jap trucks". meanwhile my vehicles cost less to maintain and have very good resale.

Cliff notes. America used to build good trucks until they didn't. since mid 80's nothing made in US is worth what you pay.

I wish tacoma was built in Japan.

and if anyone starts another GM thread, I will pee on them.

Two reasons I brought up reliability: 1) Because it is a chevy. 2) Anyone can bolt on power to anything, toyota, chevy, whatever. Adding power is easy. Adding reliable power is not so easy. Toyota has a long history of reliability, not a long a history of massive power, because most of the time it is over kill to add much more than what the stock drivetrain is designed to handle. I see a lot of people bolt on power, then have reliability issues (breaking diffs, drive lines, etc). So you can have a 300+ HP from someone else that may or may not be as reliable as Toyota, you can add power to your Taco and you may or may not reduce reliability (depending on how much you add) or you can learn to drive you Taco and pick your lines and get more performance out of what you have.

but Toyota is still made in the US and just like any other brand it is becoming american made which means build quality suffers. It's murder by numbers. The same quality issues that originally belonged to the Big 3 now belongs to any import brand buillt in the US. Look at BMW, VW, Honda and Toyota. Murder by numbers, return on investment to please stockholders. profit at anycost including quality. Toyota is not exempt. Toyota Still has a slightly higher level of build quality and are still riding on reputation, plus best resale of any marque.

Who the f**k cares about up to date "gadgets"? I keep my trucks for 20 years. Know what the Colorado doesn't have? An awesome used and aftermarket parts market.

not into gadgetry. I remember when power windows and A/C were options and I could live without power windows. But I also remember pre-cable tv and there were only 5 channels and you actually had to get up off your ass to change em.

I guess none of you read my post.

The engine makes the same power as the 1gr up to about 4500rpm, it's from 4500-7000 where it makes the hp. It's basically a car engine (more HP than torque). How many of you guys honestly rev above 4500rpm when towing? And i'm for damn sure if you are towing at that RPM, that your MPG's will be terrible.

The only gadgets i wish my 11' had, are power rear window (like a tundra), auto up/down windows (like my 99' 4runner), heated mirrors (like my 99' 4runner), and bluetooth. I know bluetooth is standard on 12' and up now. HID headlights would be nice but not necessary. I'm not even upset that the taco' still has drums. Less to break. That's why everything on my 89' 4runner still works - nothing fancy on it.

Are you stuck in a time warp? The shitty old sonoma's and colorado's are way in the past. Now, will GM have another deadly recall issue like in the cobalt that they'll ignore for 9 years? That's up for discussion. If you really want to be honest, look at the rotten ass floorboards in the 1st gen tacoma's that Fred Flinstone would love to drive! 2nd Gen Tacoma's still can rot in certain parts of the country with heavy salt on the road! That's a complete failure for Toyota to fully address the issue!

Maybe so, but I guarantee a TON of those are for the diesels. We'll see if orders and sales follow suit with their prediction. I'll tell ya, it's a good looking rig with a nice interior. Driving one is the only thing from me giving it the stamp of approval. IMO Tacoma owners have been too complacent about the truck and if sales dropped from people not buying it, our trucks wouldn't be as dated, and have better build quality, and better performance/mpg. Before anyone gets butthurt, really think about it. Toyota made a killing on not having to do any more R&D or other improvements to the tacoma for 10 years.

It would seem to me a real truck guy would know that Toyota is a reliable truck but that they can't be bothered to buy a frame with decent rust protection for the last 15 years that I know of for sure. I can't prove it but I would think this would scare off potential buyers.

Man that new Colorado looks sick.. when they were first putting out the design 2 years ago, I worked at a Chevy dealer and got to see what it looked like.. and the truck looked like an Equinox with a truck bed.. it looked hideous but now my opinion has changed. With any new truck though they will need to work out the kinks and find out if it is actually going to be a competitor with the tacoma. Such as off road capabilities, comfort, how many hot hoes fit in the bed, that sort of thing.

So let me get this straight....

The vehicle hasn't been "officially" announced or revealed in all its glory and no auto reviewer has gotten their hands on it....but it's being mass produced right now? Is that normal? Am I the only one that thinks it's odd?

What he said. If the is truck is a Tacoma killer why haven't we seen the publicity hype that usually accompanies such releases? I'm not saying that it won't be a great truck but GM is definitely dragging there heals getting any press hype going about there new midsized colossus. Usually by now car and driver or someone has taken one of these trucks across a desert or up a mountain and has written a review about it. Even when the Ford Explorer CUV was released one had been killed by some guys at a magazine by shit kicking it in a desert before they hit dealerships. I'd at least like to see a review from a reputable source that didn't just pull information from the Chevy website.
