I agree that it should be passed. My dad smoked in the same vehicle as me since i was little. Maybe thats why I smoke myself now (Probably not, but just making an excuse). I don't smoke in my truck with somebody in it unless they smoke too. Don't smoke in public either.

Not a smoker but, voted "no" even though I'm not a fan of the follow on text.

Is it safe to assume if you're a smoker you might smoke in other confined space around children? Say, in your house, trailer, camper, boat, tent ect... Granted the space may not be as confined but, a few states indicated that "even if the windows are down". I'd rather be in a car with a smoker and the windows down than in a room of a house with a smoker. So, where's the next step taking us? Will it lead to it being against the law to smoke in private homes? If it's such an issue why doesn't the government (we the people) just ban smoking? Taxes?

Well in response, if you read the entire thread, the difference between a car and a house were discussed. I think the house is a MUCH less confined space as a car, with a better air conditioning and filtration system than a car. Even in a bedroom there is more room than the confines of a car. Not that I condone smoking in a house either. The stuff makes the upholstery stink, and yellows the paint. When I bought my first house in Florida, it reeked of cigarette smoke. We repainted the house a year later, and I am not joking when I say that when we washed the ceiling, it took us HOURS to clean off the buildup. It was disgusting. And to think people draw that crap into their lungs just amazes me. It truly does.

Holy batman dude, all that and you still think the house is better than the car. Go read the link I posted a while back about household air quality. Really, just take the next step and outlaw smoking in the house. Think about the kids.

Calm down. If you read my posts as well I have said that while infants and toddles have no control, a child or teen is quite capable of stepping inside their room, or outside, if their parents are smoking. They can't very well step out of the car going down the road. Regardless of the post about household air quality, facts are facts, and a confined space of a car has a higher concentration of secondhand smoke than a room of a house. compare the cubic footage. I am not saying it is ok to smoke in the house with children either. I was simply saying that it is MORE dangerous in a confined car.

I.didn't, and probably won't read the whole thread. Anyway, I'm a smoker. I have kids. I also grew up with parents who smoked. My dad quit, but my mom still does. I've been exposed to it and around it my whole life.

So I have both perspectives going for me.

Growing up in a smoking household is awful. My parents did keep the smoking to the basement family room. In the summer, they would usually hang out on the front porch. The thing about smoke? It rises. So in winter with the house closed up. The whole house smells like cigarette smoke. Even with only my mom smoking. Going over on cold days, sucks. Even for a smoker.

The basement family room is also where my toys were. Toy boxes and whatnot down there. I can remember as a kid running around the house and actually tasting the smoke, and at times having trouble taking a deep breath. My parents also smoked in the car. To their defense, the true effects of it was not as well known. So they were not purposefully hurting me and my sister. My sister suffered and still does suffer from asthma. I always wondered if it was from my parents smoking around her.

So, now I'm a smoker. I have 2 kids with another on the way. I do not nor would I ever expose my kids to smoke like I was as a child. I smoke outside, all the time. Never once have I smokes in any houses that I've owned. Even before I had kids. Why? Because I hate the smell believe it or not. To this day, going to my parents in winter and spend even an hour there, I can smell it on me the minute I step outside.

I also do not smoke in my truck. I have only smoked in one vehicle that I've owned. Only because it was a piece of shit. But still, I don't want the smell in my vehicle. Now with kids, I would never.

It actual makes me sick to see parents with young kids in the car and they're smoking away. Sometimes with windows up.

If another smoker rides with me, or visits my house, they will do the same. Before I had kids, I did allow my mom one time smoke in my garage, only because it was sub zero temps outside. LOL. But that was it. Even then, when she was done. I opened the door to air it out.

So, with all that said. I think you're a true Asshole if you subject your kids to smoke either in a house or car. No one has the excuse anymore to play dumb and not know the effects of it on your children. A doctor even told me even that odor on a smoker can affect young lungs.

Being an outdoor only smoker, usually the only odor from me is my hand and breath. A quick wash of the hands and some gum or mouth wash and I'm good to go.

In closing. Don't be an Asshole. Don't subject your kids to smoke. Coming from a long time smoker too.
