So yesterday the personnel trainer at my work (Wal-Mart:mad:) was fired. This might not seem like a big deal to you but it is for all of us workers. She has been there for over 10 years and she was damn good at her job. She was the nicest person you'd ever meet; always asked how you were doing and stuff like that just in general a good person. She has had a lot of medical problems that caused her to miss a lot of work lately. So on monday they decided to fire her over something she can't control. I think its complete bullshit that they would fire one of their best and friendliest workers over something out of her control. I believe that they found the smallest excuse to fire her and everybody is pissed off about it even some of the upper management was very upset about it. It just pisses me off to no end why they would do this to the most liked and the hardest worker we had. But thats Wal-Mart for ya isn't it? Another reason why I can't stand that place. But i'm stuck with it.

Rant over. (Not much of a rant but I needed to speak my mind somewhere)

Welcome to adulthood, this is common in most high producing/ profit orientated companies. Why pay someone to work who's not there when you can pay someone else to do the same work or more for less.

I'm stuck with a supervisor that's been there 12 years, but drinks, gambles and watches porn on the job. Despite more than 5 people verifying this, the owners will not act. Idiosyncrasies in the law make it easy to fire good people and hard to fire bad people. I've often contemplated contacting the state labor association and filing a formal complaint. I heard they react even better than the BBB. Good luck with your situation.

Most big companies do not care about their employees like they want everyone to think they do. It's all a sham.

Rant, Rant, Rant it all out, these are the things you need to rant about.... Come on, I'm talking to you.

Btw I used to shop at WalMart a decent amount, but the more I learn of some of the douche bag politicians and things they support or do in favor of being political correct for one over another.. I'm done, I avoid the place if possible now.. Piss on you WalFart. I however do enjoy looking at funny/weird WalFart shopper pics.

It's highly illegal to do what you think they did, so my bet is that like most fellow employees of fired people, you take the firing at face value and have no clue what happens on the administrative level that triggered that situation.

In any event, unfortunate in this economy that anybody loses a job, hope she bounces back.

    Just noticed you're 18.

Not to be smartassed, snarky, rude, or anything else, but welcome to the real world. It's a good thing to see you give a shit about someone else getting fired, you're already a better employee than 25% of your peers just for that reason alone.

Be the first one to get to work, the last one to leave, work hard and take pride in everything that you do, whether you're saving a life or scrubbing a bathroom floor, don't complain, and always be eager to work. You'll go farther than the remaining 74% and become the 1% of employees who are beneficial to companies and coworkers.

No offence taken. I don't mind the job at all I just don't like the company. They treat us pretty much like slaves (For the lack of a better term) We don't get paid shit and they work us to death. I wish I could find another job but it took me forever to get this one. So i'm stuck with it for awhile.

I've never worked for them, but I'd be inclined to say that's Walmart, and today's economy which is really backwards in the sense that now the pay is less, the responsibilities and demand from the employers is more than it was when I was your age, when pay equated to fair responsibility. Now the job pool is shallow and there is a line of people needing to swim, so they'll undercut your value and expect more output because you are WAY easy to replace.

Try to stick around your job now for at least a year, it'll look good for the next potential employer that you are worth investing in more than someone who left after 7 months. Also, if you're interviewing for a job later and they ask why you quit Walmart, don't say anything negative. You had a better opportunity elsewhere is all that's needed. Most jobs similar to Walmart jobs (retail, warehouse, stocking and inventory) will be similar - low pay, high work, little respect. That's just how it goes since, again, you're easily replaced.

I work with hundreds of small-medium sized businesses and they all have a lack of good employees. If you kick ass at a place that pays you shit, makes you exhausted and doesn't give a shit about you working there or not then you will kick ass anywhere you work. Always try to better your company and better yourself and your situation

My employer fired 6 people who fit that description last year. The company decided to take a different tack on what our group does, and their "skill sets no longer fit the needs of the organization". IOW there is no such thing as a safe job.

Though every situation is different, I hate having to do double duty because someone is always calling out sick so I would rather they be transferred or fired and replaced with someone who actually shows up and works. If your medically unfit to do your job I think you have to find a job that can work around your medical issures. FMLA is there for a reason but some peeps just abuse it to not work. Not saying this is what the OP's case is. Just saying.

"

There, fixed it for ya.......................They fired her for running up their medical plan costs but yet they employ tons of chicks having kids every 10 months or so but won't do anything to them.

No job is safe. Beavis said to start your own company for a safe job, but I'd say that self employment isn't any safer but it depends on the work you choose to offer.

Like I said before, it isn't easy to get a job these days and there are LOTS of people without work who will do anything to have your crappy, low paying job. Businesses are cutting benefits, cutting corners, and cutting excess employees to save money and keep operating with a regular (hopefully) profit margin. Obviously, if 35 people are doing the work of 25, then 10 can go immediately, that's life, and it's necessary for business. The goal is to be a top producer in any industry you're in, with the best attitude and work ethic. Then when the time comes to cut 10 employees, you'll be the guy deciding who goes and who doesn't, cuz you'll have worked your way into management and not a desk drone like the guy who shows up 3 minutes late every day for 4 years

Truth. Did she need to drive for her job duties? I've never chosen to work for a large company, but my first job was. We needed reliable transportation, but they didn't care what method it was as long as you showed up to work when you were supposed to. They weren't paying enough to support a car to begin with, unless it was both paid for and also wholly reliable.
