I think buying local is a good thing. I get gas and other stuff from them. When I was looking for my plasma cutter, I think the fact I'd been buying stuff from them helped with the price. Plus, when I have questions, they have answers.

Yeah I totally get going with the LWS. Its just hard to swallow not saving $75 in just electrodes let alone some rg45 and discs. I waiting for a few more quotes to come back before I buy. Just wanted to make sure I'm not way off and missing something.

    Thanks again.

Got a question for everyone. I was at my LWS today and needed a new spool of mig wire. Asked them what they had and they showed me a 33lb spool of ER70S-6 .035 made by Viper Performance Products. I've never heard of them and the price was right at $44. I grabbed a spool to try out. Anyone ever heard of or used this brand? I can't find anything online about it.

On another note. I've been needing a bigger tank to go on my welder. This morning my boss said he was going to take some down to Airgas and turn in. I asked him what he had and he said 2 145cu ft acetylene and one big o2. I asked about buying the o2 from him to trade in on a bigger C25 tank for myself. He told me to come get them and I could have them all. Airgas traded the o2 for a C25 125 tank but didn't want the acetylene tanks. Ended up costing me the $29 gas fee for the C25. Now I have 2 acetylene tanks and a 40 cu ft C25 tank to get rid of somewhere. I scored on that deal.

The local shops hardly ever have what we need, so we usually just order online cause it's faster and airgas waits a week to call us that it's in.

Probably about 12-13 hours from you. I'm on the Georgia/Alabama border.

I can pick from Praxair, Welder's Heaven, Alliance and a couple others. That helps. Shop around. Sometimes the lowest price isn't always the best deal though ;)

So I decided to learn to weld. I started today and did some lines accross a sheet of metal. This is my first "weld", what do you guys think? Before you judge, the wire was missfeeding for the first half so it was a bit sloppy. Fixed it for the second half (f-ed up a little in the middle):

Does anyone here use a mig pulse welder? I've been using a pulse quite a bit lately and damn they weld nice. It's so easy to get a nice even fillet.
