I have been searching this form and I can't find the answer I'm looking for. I have recently bought brand new tires for my 15" rims. I am running 31" tires and I'm very happy with them. The problem is I was given a 18' bass boat by my dad and braking makes me a little nervous. I also haul mulch and wood back there quite a bit. Is there anything I can do or do I need to just upgrade my rotors and pads to fit my rims?

    Thanks

    Welcome to TW!
Tundra brakes will not fit with 15" wheels. Look into EBC pads. They are night and day difference over OEM.

thank you for the quick replies. I will look into those pads. So, would spacers work or will they be too far out.

I believe the brakes are just too big. So the top of the caliper would touch the rim. It would probably just be cheaper and simpler to go with racetruck pads.

Which pads do you recommend from them? green, yellow or ulta?

The green's are not bad, marginally more than OEM. The yellow's are insanely dusty.

    ^Exactly.

For street truck, green. Just make sure to bed them in properly on a new or resurfaced rotor and you'll be happy with them.

Good knowledge man. I have been wondering if my 15" wheels would allow a bigger brake setup.

    Little bit of EBC porn.
Green pads and the EBC slotted & coated rotors.

Very nice. Are you on 15" or 16" wheels?

    16's.
Those are factory calipers, not Tundra.

You might want to look into trading your rim/tire setup and going to 16s. I put Tundra brakes on my junk and couldn't be happier.

The tires are only a month old. I would hate to lose the investment and its been awhile since I had new tires. It rides so smooth now.

So don't get tundra brakes for now. I promise I weigh a hell of a lot more then you and I'm still okay with stock calipers and 15" rims.

You can't fit them. Period. No spacer or anything is going to solve your issue other then 16"+ rims

Just go for the EBC pads and rotors if you're dying that much.

^ What he said. His truck weighs more than anyone one's on here. And that's without Big Shaniqua that he picks up on Friday nights.

The Tundra breaks are absolutely worth it! Its like going from Flintstone breaks to throwing a boat anchor out the window. You wonder how you ever drove the truck before.

If you aren't ready to change out your rims, which is completely understandable, then spend the money on the best pads and rotors you can get. If these guys say EBC, then listen to them. When it comes to Tacomas, they know their stuff.

Steel lines will also help them feel a bit firmer. Not a huge change. But something to consider.
