I just called up my local shop and got them to quote me a price for the new Wrangler Duratracs and the guy spent more than an hour trying to track them down. He called me back and quoted me $671.40 for everything (tires, mounting, balancing, ect.) it seemed a little higher than what I expected for 235/75R15 that were $111 on tirerack but I don't know if I can even get them myself. Is this a good competitive price or should I call around and get a few more quotes?
P.S.- They are a tirerack recommended installer and I have been satisfied with the work they have done in the past.

It's always a good idea to price shop. I would if you don't like your quoted price.

Did he itemize the quote for you? Maybe he will price match the tires tothe quote you get from tirerack.... based on what you said, it seems a little high, but I really know nothing about those tires...

What is the price on just one tire? If it's more than the tirerack price, see if they can price match it. Im sure since you said that your shop is a tirerack recommended installer i'm sure they will honor that price.

$671.40 broken down to 4 tires is $167.85 a tire, which includes mount, bal, etc. So i would say that $671.40 is a fair price.

That's what I was going to do but I went ahead and told the guy to order them. If they hadn't been back ordered most places since July I might have shopped around. I'm kinda just grateful to be able to get a set.

OP said mount, bal, etc. The etc. part could include tax, certificates for each tire, and other miscellaneous fees.

Tax was included and like I said they do good work and didn't do like most shops I've talked to in the past did and simply say "Nope, cant get em, our supplier doesn't have em" the guy literally spent over an hour calling around to get them.

So much for this shop!! They just called me back and told me it would cost $220 to install freakin coil spacers. I'm no mechanic but that sounds like robbery to me. Install costs 5 times more than the damn spacers!!

Went ahead and ordered the Duratracs today and paid for them. They're so damn hard to find I didn't wanna risk waitin too long and endin up on a backorder list.
