So I took the new DCSB 4x4 TRD OR out for about an hour yesterday to the Spillway just outside of New Orleans. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW THIS TRUCK PERFORMED!:D

Completely stock this thing was very hard to get stuck. Mud is definitely the enemy with these stock BFG... Almost got here bogged down good but I was being very cautious being out there without a buddy car to tow. Through it in reverse 4LO+Locker, and it crawled right out. The pic below doesn't really show how deep the front end was, or how mushy that shit turned out to be, but the front end sank in pretty good. As a rule I avoid mud, but I wanted to test all these 4x4 gadgets out. Couldn't get myself in a situation where ATRAC did anything.

Can't wait for better tires, eibachs and 5100s x4. It's great but could use a much better tire and stiffness. Going in for rear leaf TSB (hopefully) today.

Here's just a quick somewhat boring video... But it was FUN! Can't believe how well this thing climbs, those levees are steeper than it looks...

    http://youtu.be/_ZHMF9kk3Sc

One question, when climbing straight up that hill the first few times I tested all the drive modes (4x2, 4HI, etc). In 4x2 it would make it almost all the way and when it got as far as it could go before rolling back, a sound came from the driver front wheel well area. Sounded like a diving board "boing", what is this?

New to off road? Cause what I saw in that video looked like you were doing cross-country driving which ain't cool at all. Stay on the trail.

Dude, the spillway in New Orleans is an offroad area for trucks and bikes. I wasn't tearing that grass up at all. It's a swamp dude. And that sand ain't hurtin.

You guys need to slow down with the harsh words, this is a flood plain that is opened up to protect New Orleans during hurricanes. When it is not in use it's and offroad park. No real trails to speak of as it is constantly changing ground.call the trails to speak of are people making them through the swamp brush that grows feet month. I wasn't diggin it like most big a mud trucks do out there at all, not that it matters out there.

    Get off your high horse.

No harm at all there is a road on top of it you can't see. And I wasn't harming it, just trying to test the hill climb of the truck.

It's just two new guys who hugged a tree a little much...

Op, nice truck, great color, enjoy!

And you should have tried the ATRAC while you were "stuck"

"Stay on the trail" is solid advice and keeps land open for recreational use.

TW has members from all over the world so it's not unrealistic for us to not know the specifics of the land in OP's video. "Stay on the trails" and "tread lightly" will always be advice given by any responsible offroad community.

I'm glad to see that people both advise responsibility and that the OP was already on board long before it was mentioned here. :)

Hi, glad you are sharing your new ride with us.

    I don't understand your A-TRAC comment?

Did you push the A-TRAC button the first time you went into Low Range?

I find no reason to not have the A-TRAC in the active mode every time in low range.

Only use the rear locker if A-TRAC doesn't get you through or up any obstacle. (Note the sticker on your door warning to use the locker for emergency only... not that I think that exactly, but the A-TRAC 'locks' the front and rear, so it is twice the traction of the locker alone).

You also can have both the locker and A-TRAC together, if you want to have no throttle regulation over 3 mph (ie. the A-TRAC only works under 3 mph with the rear locked and essentially since your speed drops to near zero when you lose traction, that's when A-TRAC works any time, anyway... it is automatic).

I don't think I understood what it was going to do. This is great info. Thanks!

Ok great, it was just a curious sound. Never had traction control before. Damn good call on the side air bags!!!

That's how I was operating it. 4lo + atrac + locker, when I was going through iffy muddy ruts. My locker is tough to engage, don't think it's ever been used before.

What is the proper way engage the locker?

    Yeah.
You may have to turn a little to get things lined up to lock. I always have to, it just takes a little.

Roger that, that's how I looked at it.

Another note about those side airbags, they took the place of the oh shit handles!! That is a crime! Only complaint.

Not sure if this is true, can anyone confirm or deny? I've heard that when your actually stuck the locker engages a lot easier, because the slipping of the wheels helps to more easily align all the pins needed to lock it.

I had a hard time getting mine to lock the first time, and thought there might be a problem while in my driveway. Once I got out in a gravel pit and had more room to mess around I got it to engage by doing exactly what Beavis described.

Nice pics OP. I grew up in NOLA, but haven't lived there in about 20 years so I've never been out there with my truck. My brother use to take his 1st Gen out there, and I've played around there on an ATV.

May have to make a trip over there next time I visit my brother on the northshore.
