 this country is far from perfect. But its a hell of a lot better than most others.

Unfortunately, some people are stupid and need protected from themselves. You've never met/talked to someone who just completely lacks common sense?

On your edit. What research do I need to do to agree to it helping a child? Has nothing to do to being blind and just following.

I did edit my previous post with something you may want to read.

So someone isn't the brightest bulb on the tree and we should pass laws to restrict them because they might hurt themselves? Yea that's the American way right there... Seriously, what happened to being responsible for yourself rather than rely on someone deciding what you can and can't do?

The government will protect me? I've already showed in this thread where the government does not care about our individual health.

That's for you to figure out. Like how will it work/be enforced, can it be a stepping stone for future legislation, is it worth it to give up liberty for the promise of protection, etc. That blanket statement more often than not just shows lack of research and a play on emotions.

After all who would want to hurt a child?

For the rest of our sakes? Yes we need some of those laws. Why? To protect us from the stupid doing stupid things.
For example. Why do we need a law saying that we need safety chains while towing something. Boat, trailer home, etc...

Now, someone with common sense would say to themselves "hmmm I should put these chains on, just incase this breaks loose from my truck." Now, someone who either doesn't care or just is too stupid to figure that those chains ate there for a reason, doesn't hook them up.

Now you and your family are driving down the road, hopefully in a smoke free vehicle, and boom the guys big ass boat infront of you breaks free. Now that common sense guy hooked up the chains. So no worries for you. Or that dipshit guy, who remembered its illegal to tow without those chains. Phew! You're safe again. But uh oh, there was no law put in.place for that huh? Guy said F it, I don't need em. And hear comes a boat coming strait for you and yours. You swerve, and hope for the best. Etc... Etc...

You get where I'm going with this right? It's not.just to protect the stupid from themselves as you see it. It's also to protect us from the stupid.

The post I quoted clearly stated protect people from themselves.

As for your reasoning, I'll leave you with this quote. “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Ben Franklin

As for your example, clearly you've never seen a rusted out receiver hitch brake off the frame. Those chains are going to do a lot of good in that situation. IMO trailer chains are like wings on a maxi pad. Occasionally they're needed, but more often than not, they're just there there to act as a security blanket for the pussy between them (or in this case around them).

This goes for you also. Your against it without knowing if it will do be any of those things. I never said I'd be for it, if it was going to somehow.open it up that the government could come in and steal my cigarettes out of my house. I'm just for it, if it truly just says "You can not smoke in your vehicle with a child below the age of 18" plain and simple.

Could you agree on a law that just says that? And not open it up to anything else?

Well if it makes me a "Sheep" because I don't mind a little preventive measures to possible protect me or mine, then so be it.

And Ben Franklin also said " Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy"

Guess I need to start drinking to be happy cause Ben Franklin said it.

I agree with what many have stated, some people aren't smart enough to make an educated decision.

So they'll smoke with children in the car, who have no say in the matter. Then again, im sure many of those people smoke at home and their kids are used to it...

    Well I'll say this.

With the current government and laws in place. I'm quite happy with my life in my little slice of suburbia.

I've never had anyone come into my house, let alone a government agency, and take anything from me. So I have no reason to believe that with these laws, that's the direction they are taking.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'm a smoker and not at all proud of it, but I do agree if parents aren't smart enough to not lock their kid in a cloud of smoke then yes the government should step in.

My wife doesn't smoke and she comes from a family where her parents did not smoke. On the other end of the spectrum both my parents smoked (including in the car with us kids in it) and myself, my brother and sister all now smoke. Pure coincidence, probably not.

Anyhow even as a smoker I find it disgusting to think of smoking while you have a kid in the vehicle with you.

I've also learned that history does not always repeat itself.

Although I was shocked a few years back of the return of bell bottoms. That bit of history shouldn't of repeated itself.

    True

It's pretty obvious that the government wanting kids to not get lung cancer is a gateway law to a complete annexation of all personal freedoms , everybody should be able to make that connection
