shouldnt be an issue.... i tow my boat and tons of gear in the bed, probably all totaling 3000lbs with no trailer brake and my TRD OR with its electric brake booster doesnt have any issue stopping.

Though.... that much weight in the bed alone.... lil much.

    A few questions:

Under heavy loads, the leaf springs do bend to concave shape.
Do they always recover to the normal shape?

Figure what the manual says is a acceptable load, load 80% of that in the bed.
Would a Toyota regional rep be happy to see that, and possibly take action?

How to get a hold of the regional rep?

stock leafs are known to be very weak... even the 3+1 leaf pack. no way your doing 1000lbs in the bed and not be on the bump stops or very close to.

No money, all went to truck...
hmm, I didn't think to check how close to bump stops I was. I don't recall feeling the truck hitting bump stops.

The more I think about it, the more I am leaning toward putting in air bags but am reluctant cause I'm not all that mechanical

You probably didn't feel it hitting the bumpstops because you were most likely riding on them the whole time
