Also, it's been 27 years since Kentucky has beaten Florida. 35 since UK has beaten Florida in the swamp. Here's to new beginnings???

I know.. at least basketball season starts in 20 days. And at least UK has more football national titles than South Carolina. (1950 they were coached by Bear Bryant before he went to that other school in the south)

 

I had a professor last semester that graduated from Kentucky and he said if they won the National Championship, he'd cancel the class and give everyone an A........so close

 

I heard he was going to do a morning show on a major network channel.

 

I heard it's Good Morning America. Kinda freaks me out!!!

 

I thought he was going to be on the talk?

 

In 1950 they won the SEC championship, not a national title

 

Well, technically in 1950 there wasn't a BCS championship, but Oklahoma was preseason #1 in one poll, went 10-0, finished #1 and then lost to Kentucky in the Sugar Bowl. At the time they considered it the national championship which UK won. So while it wasn't a BCS championship UK beat the #1 team in the country in biggest postseason bowl game at the time, and considered as the Sagarin National Championship. So it's kind of grey area for sure but it would definitely be considered a national championship in today's era. But in the 64 years that followed Kentucky has done nothing, so Oklahoma got the last laugh.

I didn't expect this at all.

 

Technically at the time you could be national champions even if you lost in the national championship game, since it was only based on polls. So over time several teams have retroactively been selected as the national champs, since the system in place at the time would not acceptable by todays standards. but the NCAA doesn't ever change their records since they based a lot of them on polls only. While an excellent argument can be made that Bryant's 1950 Kentucky team should have been crowned as "National Champions", the rule of that time was that the final polling was taken before bowl games which while ethically incorrect, it was the rule at the time. Even with the addition of the AP poll in 1936, several of the "official" polls have given the Championship to the wrong team. So Ill shut up, but food for thought nonetheless. Kentucky won the 1950 national championship game, but wasnt awarded the title of NCAA national champion.

It would essentially be like giving LSU the 2012 national title even though they lost 21-0 to Bama in the national championship game.
