I get around 21 1/2 in town driving like an asshole. Highway I can get close to 25 if I set the cruise at about 60. 4cyl perks :)

Best tank ever was a trip to Milwaukee last weekend. 19.5, with previous tank 18.7. For those that complain about gas mileage, my advice would be to get a Prius.

21.6 last tank. Mostly hwy @ 70 mph average. Closing on 30k and will switch to full syn. Some have said they see an increase.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
At .81 and .86, the OD ratios are almost identical for the 5 and 6 speed.

My sweet spot is right at about 1,900 rpms which is 55 mph in 5th. I recently took an 800+ mile trip keeping the engine in the vicinity of the torque peak and averaged 30.6 mpg. (RED: how I'm presently running with a Flowmaster muffler)

I just got back from a trip to San Antonio (about 600 miles round trip) Combination of Farm roads (60-65 mph), Interstate (75-80 mph), and city traffic. Tallied it up when I got back and averaged right at 19.6. Currently have just under 8,000 miles total on the truck

I have a heavy foot and also drive like and a-hole, on occasion. My avg fuel economy is in my sig. That's probably 50/50 city/hwy. I've taken all hwy trips and limited my cruising speed to no more than 70mph and I've gotten 21mpg.

    OP, I have a 6cyl 6 speed 2006 DCSB with a 3 inch'ish lift and 265/75's. I get excited for 18mpg. I should've researched before going manual, but it's fun to drive.

I have a 2010 double cab short bed, and have never seen better than 17 mpg even on highway. It may also be because I am always going at least 70 or greater on the highway. And in the city i get about 15.8 mpg

How in the world do you get that kind of gas mileage. Please any advice, I would love to even just get 17.

I agree about the manual. Did you loose much mileage when u put the lift on?

    NORMAL in Cali...

Very similar to my 2010 DC (4WD, V6, AUTO) in Southern California with diluted gasoline to make enviro-nazis happy. Usually 15-16 if in town (stop and go driving), sometimes under 15, and 17-18 on the highway.

I actually got 20 mpg on the highway in Arizona between Yuma and Tucson, cruising at 65-75 mph. The truck was empty except for me and my bag.

I did record over 19 mpg once, fully loaded for camping, using Mexican (PEMEX) gasoline... which has NO ETHANOL in it.

He has a "4 banger", 4 cylinder motor. 22-27 mpg is typical for them.

I have a 4 banger but my mileage is 18 at best. I added P265/75-16 tires when new. I added cruise and if I want to use it I run in 3rd then the mileage is 15. The reason I run in 3rd is because the transmission shifts at the slightest upgrade. If I drove it more than a few thousand miles a year I would go full size at get better mileage. Oh, I drive mostly 50-60.

I'm averaging 18-19 mpg with my 6sp access cab overall city/hwy driving. I use 5th gear a lot in town once I get to 35mph and above, seems to help the in town mpg stay on the higher side.

The only time I'm not fond of the manual is in freeway stop-n-go traffic. Sometimes the lower geared OD is nice on hills that a lot of 5sps even need to downshift on, our 6spd's cruise up them in 6th no prob.

If I ever buy another Tacoma it will be a DBL cab 4x4 auto for reasons other than fuel efficiency.

I have one and I'm getting about the same as you. My normal driving routine I get around 17-ish in mixed driving.

I bought mine with about 50,000 miles on the clock and immediately switched all oils to Amsoil synthetic. My best ever MPG was 24 on 245/75r16 all season tires on a trip where I took mostly 55 to 65 MPH state roads. I just did the same trip two weeks ago but now I have a shell and 265/70r16 AT tires and I got 22.5 MPG. Still pretty good for a 4wd double cab truck loaded with camping shit.

My last oil change in July I put in Royal Purple 5W-30 and my "normal routine" MPG bumped up to 18.5-18.75 consistent over the last few tanks of gas. When the drivetrain oils are due again, I will switch them to Royal Purple as well. I also use only Costco or Shell premium gas. The slightly better MPG probably doesn't cover the expense of synthetic oil and premium fuel, but I care more about longevity than fuel economy.
