If I already "refinished" (rattle-canned) parts of my frame, y'all think that'd be a problem with the techs when they inspect it?

Probably not. They may not want to put their rust proofing on it...but if it has a giant hole somewhere, they have to replace it.

From what has been discussed in this and other threads, performing "maintenance", upkeep and even adding aftermarket items should not void any TSB/Recall/service programs unless it can be prove that it caused the defect.

Adding polish to the car will not void the paint warranty but aggressive rubbing compound and buffing may. The Frame issue appears to be similar, Actions to maintain and protect the frame Should not void the fact the chassis steel and maybe it's riveted design are the issue/defect/cause here.

I believe there are even some posts that state Toyota actually refunded to the customer the costs of such customer maintenance to the Frames. (i.e. Fluid Film or rust removal, etc.)

Now if you encapsulated the frame in a thick compound that traps water and help causse the issue .... This may be a problem with Toyota ....

I was able to get a refund from my rust removal/coating that I had put by a 3rd party (Auto Rust Technicians, Cranston RI).
But I am with everyone else, I don't think they will worry if you fixed some of your own rust spots on the frame.

Picked up my truck on Monday. Took a week to replace frame. It's like a night and day difference in how it rides now. Steering is tighter, ride is smoother. I still had the old 3 leaf rear spring, now have the 4 leaf. It doesn't sqeak when I get out of it anymore.
Tried to read the cashier's copy of invoice,(it was upside down to me) looked like they billed $12,317. Plus the rental was $210.
If you can get it done, do it

Took the dealer 1 day to remove the old frame and get everything set on the new one. Now I would imagine it will take them a while to get everything connected back together. Did anyone else only get a frame? I didn't get new leafs or lower control arms.

Took mine to dealer here in VA today. Ended up with new headlights through extended warranty for them (if your dtrl's burned out the lenses then go to your dealer for warranty replacement) and they inspected my frame and documented all of the holes rusted through. They told me I would get a call as soon as they get word of the LSC beginning in VA. Fingers crossed

Yeah, if you already have holes in it, heck, go do it!

But if you're not sure what your frame looks like, I say you're better waiting until deadline.

Awesome, thanks. That would be cool to see the difference between maintained and not maintained frames of the same year. Will probably make me feel better about spending $130 for Krown. :)

If it's like the 1st gen frame replacement you should be getting a lot more than the frame, should be new control arms, leaf springs, etc. Might want to call the dealer and ask and/or call toyota to make sure, would suck to lose out on new parts for free.
